Name That Plant!

Unusual seed pod

I picked this up while out on a hike. The photo is taken of some still hanging on the tree. It was a short little unusually shaped tree ( of course it could have been young ) When it dried it broke open and was FULL of seed. The pod is approx. 4" long, maybe a bit longer. Any ideas what kind of tree this comes from ? Thank you !

Looks like trumpet vine.

Oh no...the seed pod is three times the side of a trumpet vine bloom ! This is a tree, not a vine. I've seen it twice growing on a tree. I have a friend also who gave me one earlier in the year and she said it came from what somebody called a 'butterfly tree'.

I should have mentioned that it was found at a park in Zone 6. I think it was Fairmount Park in Philadelphia.

If only I would of looked here first I wouldn't of had to ask myself. I still desire to keep mine. They make a very interesting plant in my opinion. Unfortunately non natives only get about 10% of my gardening space but it is against my nature to kill flowers so this one gets its spot. I still don't know how it got here since I didn't bring it and it wasn't here for the last two years I know of.

Seed Pods on lillies open with loads of black seeds

With black seeds, I think they are daylilies, Hemerocallis. If the leaves grow from the base and not on the stalk they are daylilies. I just started some daylily seeds the same way (floating) and have potted up 3 seedlings. I can't help you on seed storage. If you post this on the daylily forum there are a lot of people there that grow from seed and they can help you.

Here it is with me holding the pod..so you can get an idea of the size of it, and there are a ton of these flat seeds in it also.

It is definitely in the same family(Bignoniaceae) as trumpet vine. They all have the long pods filled with winged seeds.

Wow I was so sure this came from a tree. Maybe in the dark what I didn't notice was a vine IN that tree lol.
Sorry William..I had no idea a trumpet vine seed pod could be so big ! Thank you Remy for helping to clear this up..
Now if I only I knew which one it was..the color I mean. The orange is most common around here.
