This is from the site of a native plant nursery, and I like how simply it explains the problem of invasive plants: "Invasive plants reproduce rapidly crowding out native species, damaging natural areas, and altering ecosystems. Many were brought into the U.S. as landscaping plants and have escaped cultivation. Most produce large numbers of seeds that are dispersed over large areas by the wind or birds and other wildlife making them difficult to control." The first time I'd seen a list of plants like the one the site includes, I was unhappy to see how many of my prized plants were on the list. Now at least I have more information and I try to add native plants to my garden to help native wildlife and avoid invasive plants. Thanks - I'll crush some leaves this weekend and let you know the results. If it is Cassia (Senna), it seems amazing to find it in the hills of West Virginia! From my quick research on the web, I understand this is a native of Africa, and generally prefers frost-less habitats.
