European Plums and rootstocks

All,

I learn so much every time I post a question, so I'm posting again :)

1) How do Stanley and Castleton perform in the mid-Atlantic? I chose these varieties because they are self-fertile, ripen at different times (therefore extending the season) and sound like they are winners overall (also my Grandma had a "Stanley" in Colorado and it did great).

2) What kind of rootstock would you reccomend for European plums that will be planted in clay soil that does not necessarily have the greatest drainage (although I will be planting the plums on mounds about a foot tall)? Also, I am in favor of having small, manageable trees. It sounds like Krymsk 1 might be a canditate . . .
