LawnBoy Silver 10304 2 stroke compression
Comments (12)OK guys, this is what I found out after cleaning and observing, hopefully this will help others to catch this before it ruins their mower. After cleaning and then pouring the cleaning solution through a strainer I found the small thrust bearing rollers where they failed and got into the intake and sucked into the cylinder, thus scoring the cylinder. So that is what ruined my cylinder. The lower crank bearing nearest blade end was worn out due to it's being too small for the job. This was a self propel and the pressure of the belt tension pulls on the bearing, this wore the bearing out and wore the goove in the shaft. A larger bearing would have prevented this, but I guess one motor for both self propel and push mower was cheaper. You can check this by grasping the blade and shaft and see if there is any excessive back and forth play. Not sure if other models are built this way or if the Toro's are the same, but you sould check this every few years by tearing down and checking the bearing. Something I would never have thought of. This was a shame, mower looked as clean inside as outside, so all the care I took didn't prevent failure. I have to just hope the extra care I took made it last as long as it did. I'm now in the process of finding some good used parts or engine. Sure I could probably put a new bearing on the worn shaft, hone out a lot of the scratches, leaving some deep scores, put in new piston and rings and it would probably work for awhile, but I don't work like that. Too much blow by trash would gum up the intake side if I did that and suck it into the cylinder as it's all shared with exhaust, intake and crank valley. Thanks for all the advice provided!...See MoreI have a 2 stroke lawn-boy that won,t start
Comments (8)While a plugged muffler or plugged exhaust ports will keep a LB from running right, it will not keep it from at least firing a few shots. Engine couldn't possibly have run to that point. Cleaning the muffler depends on WHAT muffler your LB has. The one pc. steel ones can be thrown in your charcoal grill when you have finished cooking and left. Tap/blow out when cooled. The muffler for the model number given is a 2 pc. cast aluminum one which easily comes apart for cleaning. Use some SeaFoam in your fuel for a few tanks full. Your trouble could be a lot of things. That model is the first one with CDI which continues to be a weak spot with LB. However, you say you have good spark so shouldn't be that. Could be bad crankcase seals or bad reed valves. Comments (18)I have been debating between the two for a long time. I came to conclusion that the Mantis has the same proven gear box for years where Honda is new. Also I am using it mainly for de-thatching. The video I post below show how good the Mantis work, I just want to play it safe. I just order the Mantis with Honda engine with de-thatcher and aerator tines. Mantis have promotion. $449 for tiller, they kick in the kick stand, edger, free shipping, one year refund. Just can't refuse this. I mainly use it for de-thatching. If you have doubt of how well this little thing work for dethatching, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU7kUDcOhiU I choose Mantis over Honda FG110 because of the promotion and also the gear reduction ratio. Mantis is 42:1 vs Honda 35:1. Higher gear ratio of Mantis meaning the tines turn slower and have better torque. For de-thatching, slower turning should be better for the grass so it won't damage the grass as much. Also higher gear ratio means it won't labor the engine as much. I choose the Honda engine because the Echo is rated only at 0.9hp where as the Honda is 1.1hp. 0.9hp for the Echo engine is published by Mantis. Honda GX25 is rated 1.1hp in many documentation. I hate mixing oil. I have HC151 hedge trimmer with the same Echo engine, it is loud and harder to start. I have the Honda HHT31S trimmer and the engine is so quiet, the sound of the trim head spinning is as loud as the motor. You almost can get away without ear plug.( don't even think about it). I'll post my experience after I use it. It should be here in a week....See MoreOld Craftsman chainsaw...full compression on each stroke
Comments (10)Some individuals and some saws can be started on the ground using your foot to hold the Monster down while you pull. IâÂÂm not that gifted except with larger compression release saws. A manual prime might give you a faster start. Have you checked the compression with a gauge to see if itâÂÂs excessive? IMO 2-Cycles Etc takes a good Pull or Whip which has sent me to my electric 12â saw at home. The pull is challenging but if the Saw/Etc is tuned it should Fire Up. If the saw is old enough to have points causing bad timing, I can see a kickback/snatch. Otherwise, I personally have not seen enough carbon build-up in a cyl to affect the compression. If there is a build-up you possibly can see some of it on the top of the piston through the mufflerâÂÂs exhaust port. Did it start easier and run after the tech serviced it with a better mix?...See Morehomegrown55
