Here is my experience with my Honda Lawn Mower. I have never used any kind of stabilizer. What I do is add a little Mystery Oil. Does it help I don't know. But it doesn't cost that much and hasn't cause any problems. I am not sure how old the mower is but I have had it 8-10 years. My son gave it to me. Never had a problem with old gas. And some of the gas that I use is a couple of years old. Now the reason for the gas being so old is. The I have a generator that holds about 7 gals. of gas. Well there were those times we thought that we would loose power. So we would fill up our generator to get prepared. But we never lost power. So the gas just sit in the generator. Any way after sitting for so long without being used I decided to syphon it out and use it. And like I said I had no problems with using it. Now here is how I use my mower. I take it out of the shed. Check the oil level. Turn the gas shut off to on position. Fill the tank with gas. Move lever to the choke position. Pull the start cord slowly till I feel compression. Let it retract and give it one good pull and it starts every time on one pull. Now when I put the mower away the tank is almost empty. While it is still running I shut the fuel shutoff to the off position. And stop the mower. Then I take the leaf blower and blow all the debris from the mower. After I am done doing that I start it up put in gear and walk it into the shed and let it run until it runs out of gas. So it is stored with an empty tank and an empty carb. And as far as I know it has the original plug in it. I have never changed it. I don't know if my son did when he had it or not. I have never had to do any thing to the mower. The only thing is I am going to have to put new wheels on it next year. The tread is just about wore off of them.

My "agent Orange" formula is working great. I don't know how my L21ZPNC ever ran without it. It was fed a steady diet of Mercury TCW-3 outboard oil since the day it was new in 1991. You just can't kill those old F series Lawnboys.

My 2 cents on the matter. I've been using this procedure for over 35 years and NEVER has my equipment failed to start in the spring. That includes ethanol mixed gas. I plan to have as little gas in the tank as possible, I then let the engine run dry, as it starts to sputter, I engage the choke which lets it run a bit longer and removes even more fuel from the carb bowl. I then remove the fuel hose from the carb (with or without shut off) and let whatever fuel is left in the tank empty out. There will always be a bit left in the tank. Sometimes I even attach my compressor to the tank and blow out whatever is left. Next I remove the spark plug and shoot a little oil down the cylinder and pull the chord several times. I then slowly pull the chord until I feel resistance and stop, the cylinder is now at Top Dead Center and that relieves the pressure on the valves springs as well as sealing the cylinder a to prevent moisture buildup. Lastly I change the oil, clean or replace air filter and spark plug, then screw the spark plug back in hand tight. I also install a sharpened blade ((spare) at this time. In the spring I unscrew the spark plug, pull the chord several times to purge the cylinder of oil, screw the plug back in and add fresh gas (with Stabil). I pull the chord once or twice and the engines always start right up, It may smoke for a little while since some oil still remains in the cylinder but clears up shortly. My recent push mower, a Toro Personal Pace is going into it's 14th season and still always starts in the spring, as well as all summer on the first pull. All my equipment is stored in unheated shed and out of the elements. There are many who believe top off the tank with Stabil enriched gas is a better method, however, this method has worked for me all these years and I intend to continue.

Don't think I suggested Amoco-Gas was only used in gas appliances but it was cheaper than buying a can of pre packed stove fuel. If it was not used in cars it sure would have been stale by the time anyone bought it for a camp stove. We just happened to have a Amoco a couple blocks from home so my dad would fill the gallon can before we left on vacation only times I recall buying stove fuel was when we went to Canada and ran out of Amoco territory. From wikipedia: "While most oil companies were switching to leaded gasolines en masse during the mid-to-late 1920s, American Oil chose to continue marketing its premium-grade "Amoco-Gas" (later Amoco Super-Premium) as a lead-free gasoline by using aromatics rather than tetraethyl lead to increase octane levels, decades before the environmental movement of the early 1970s led to more stringent auto emission controls which ultimately mandated the universal phase out of leaded gasoline. The "Amoco" lead-free gasoline was sold at American's stations in the eastern and southern U.S. alongside American Regular gasoline, which was a leaded fuel. I think the explanation if their is one was cleaner burning and less lead deposits on pistons, valves and plugs. I think ESSO had the tiger in your tank shortly before they changed the name to Exxon
