lawn mower starts, but wont stay running
Comments (5)Gasoline is not a pure chemical. It is refined from crude oil, but there is still some percentage of gum that accumulates in the carburetor, over time. I'm glad that your mower is running well. Some people add carb cleaner to the gas tank used for refilling the lawnmower, and operate the mower on that mixture all the time....See MoreLawn mower stalls after running for 15 minutes
Comments (1)You can probably use a stiff piece of wire (straighten one fold of a paperclip) to probe the vent holes in the cap. There will be at least one hole on exterior of cap and one hole on underside of cap. Sometimes the hole gets plugged up when a very tiny insect finds the hole and decides it is the ideal place to lay a clutch of eggs. Some of the small "mud daubers" also lay in a cache of tiny spiders or caterpillars with the eggs and then seal over the hole with a bit of mud. You may have look closely to locate this plugged hole if this has happened. Been there, done that. I would venture to say, this is one of the most common fuel system problems on any brand/model of OPE. Sometimes it is because dirt/dust is inhaled into the hole, sometimes it's bugs, sometimes it's grass "fines"....See MoreTroyBilt 7.25 Briggs Stratton Lawn Mower - Can't Keep it running
Comments (5)Way, way, back when we used to actually troubleshoot electronics for discreet component failures and then replace the flawed part, we used a small spay can of freon to cool suspect items. You might try giving the coil a shot of air to see if that tells anything. I believe freon is illegal now. Also, next time it dies, immediately pull the plug and shoot some carb cleaner in and see if it fires. If it does, even "hot" that tells you the ignition is OK. That would leave the carb or whatever that uses for a fuel pump. Sorry, not familiar with that machine. Good luck, Ev...See MoreLawn mower starts and will run, but stops shortly afterwards
Comments (5)there is not much information to figure this our. Here are a couple of ideas Did you remove the fuel tank to drain all the old fuel and water? Was the inside of the tank cleaned and dried prior to installing? Pouring fresh fuel on top of contaminated fuel is no longer fresh. Was a new fuel line installed? Check to see if a flap of rubber on the inside of the fuel line may have pulled loose and is blocking fuel flow. Also, if a speck of dirt made it past the needle & seat, it made have lodged in the main fuel jet. Check the strength of the ignition with a briggs spark tester. The light bulb testers will not perform this test properly. The magnetron ignition is usually reliable, however, if the mounting area has corroded, continuity may be lost and the ignition will be weakened. The handle bar bale operates an engine brake and also anelectrical contact that grounds out the engine ignition. Frequently, the bale cable wears and the electrical contact is right on the edge - possibility killing the ignition....See Morerosemallow
