lou midlothian tx, great, I agree with and texas-weed about not worth the trouble over seeding bermudagrass in TEXAS unless done by a proffesional, BUT, the tittle of this thread clearly reads: Bermuda-Rye Cycle in NC AND, by texas-weed's own words: "In the Triangle area you would over seed right after the hot weather breaks like late August or early September. The Rye comes up does well all fall, winter, spring, and then around mid June or Early July you finally get enough hot weather to kill it off. Well the Bermuda will be delayed until it is killed off and takes some time to recover from being robbed by the Rye. So here comes late July of early August before the Bermuda is fully recovered and guess what time it is again? Time to over seed again and start the vicious cycle again which weakens the Bermuda even more." And What's wrong with that? The PRG has a much longer growing season and stays green much longer than bermuda IN the Triangle area... "Now as opposed to some place like Phoenix you over seed in mid December and the Rye grass is dead and gone by the first week of March. The Bermuda has 9 months to recover. Get the idea?" Yes, the idea is that the original poster is located in Raleigh, NC and not in Phoenix or Texas. Get the idea? "Now that I look at the pics, that is not Rye grass, it is Bermuda. Look closely and you can see the crow foot seed heads in the 419." I couln't tell you if the bermuda was 419, 425, or 457, but I can surely tell you there was PRG in the mix from a mile away. I know very well how PRG looks like because I have in my yard and I have been growing it for a few years now.

Hi rager, thanks for the reply. Here is a picture where I've circled the major area that i think was impacted from lack of water the circled area turned silvery gray from lack of water prior to turning brown. When i look closely in that area i don't see any green at all yet. I didn't mean to imply it was dead and never coming back, just that it shows no green at all currently. There are a bunch of other smaller areas that have been impacted by either dog pee or poop, or something else. Curious how I would determine dead vs. dormant, and curious how it would go dormant in the middle of summer, stress? Lack of XYZ? When sod was laid nothing was added, no lime, no fertilizer, no pre-emergent no nothin. I hadn't researched it and was trusting landscaper to do it right, i was wrong to have trusted him. Following his instructions i waited 4 weeks for first mow, and finally decided to call a lawn service company to take care of chems and fertilzer and any disease/issue that crops up. They said they needed to wait further because it was still too new to do anything to, and they explained to me what should have been done, and how some of it would have to wait till next year (crabgrass etc.). They said i could put some starter fertilizer on it which i did, but they said that would also cause broad leaf weeds to grow. They came out for the 1st time a month ago, sprayed for broad leaf weeds, not sure if fertilizer was applied, and told me to water more. I started looking into buying a smaller mower because of all the scalping that was occurring and the more i read the more i realized i need to do. This all lead to reel mower purchase and attempt to shorten grass mowing height but i see that i should just wait till next spring for that.

Disregard what I said earlier as I have taken a closer look at your pics. The very first picture is not a lack of water. When Bermuda gets thirty, it goes dormant, yours is dead. In the very first picture in the lower center is dead Bermuda. Toward the upper right looks like dormant Bermuda with water stress or a progressing problem. The other pics are just dead grass. To hard to tell but my guess is insects/grubs, or as mentioned a shade problem. Also noticed you are in DFW, so drought is not an option this year. So the question back at you is the problem areas in shade? If not peel pack the dead grass and look for grubs.

@kempek01 , no the paint has not come off, it's still there. However, from a matte finish it has become polished into a gloss finish because it was rubbing against cardboard throughout the transportation, which is why it is reflecting light. We are still waiting for a solution from the company, if they offer to touch up the paint, I would be fine with it.
