Hi.... This mower seems to have fire and lots of fuel getting to carb but she will not run.I took carb apart and cleaned it but still will not start. What could be the problem.
It has this type of carb. Look at the posting, especially the main jet. I have shown a tip cleaner inserted into the small hole that gets clogged with varnish. That is usually the problem. Or water in the bottom of the bowl.
OK- We have a Canadian model which makes things more difficult. The engine is a Tecumseh (branded as Sears) I can't find that number in my conversion chart to determine which TEC. Craftsman # is 143.986708 for anybody that might have a newer chart.
Apparently the carb# is a TEC 640020
IF this carburetor has the plastic float bowl, your best bet is to get a complete bowl kit. It's basically a carb rebuild for a reasonable price.
This is a bit dated-bowl kits Walk-Behinds 1997 and earlier - 730235B " " 1998 and to date - 730637A
IF not, does it appear to have a brass bolt holding the carb bowl on? IF so, that is your Main Jet. Remove and clean out the tiny HOLES.
You say it's got lots of fire so i'm assuming your meaning spark. If that's a fact and you seen the spark then how bout your ignition coil? Is it good and is it properly spaced from the flywheel. Your spark plug can still put out spark but be bad, that's where i'm at without seeing it
