Seasons and Pruning (especially fall and spring)

Jonathan

Hello,

Does pruning apple trees in the fall or spring somehow weaken them?

As I understand it:

Summer pruning leads to increased fruitfulness, but the possibility of infection, and it's relatively hard to see what you're doing due to all the leaves.

Winter pruning is when it's easiest to see what's going on, but leads to increased foliage growth.

Nobody talks about spring pruning either. Any reasons not to prune in spring?

I'm in central MA (relatively severe winters), FWIW. Fall and spring are such a nice times to be outside, here, so I'd like to be sure that pruning then is a bad idea.
