Thank you for the response. It was a pain but turns out the large flat coiled spring had broken off close to center of the plate. I just put a turn in the end with pliers and refit it. Then it took me a while to figure how the small spring fit into the pinion. This spring had bent when the lg spring went and i had to bend it back into shape. It is a pain to get in there, had to take off the carburetor/reedplate assembly, then had to undo the flywheel to get an angle from above. But it's fixed! Runs like a champ! Steve

Thank you so much for responding and for explaining that water-bourne and water based are different. I didn't realize the two terms meant different things! I have only used the Bruce Hardwood & Laminate floor cleaner on it. I am the only person who has ever cleaned the floor so I am confident that there have not been any other cleaners used. The only person who might have used something else would have been the original installer, approximately 12 years ago. If my memory serves correctly, I believe he had a can of mineral spirits on hand. I imagine he might have used that to remove excess adhesive. We had some contractors come out to look at it but not a single one has ever responded or provided a quote after looking at it and hearing that the floor is sensitive to water. Essentially, they run from the job. Since none of the contractors in our area are willing to do the job we want to give it a try but we would like to be as educated as possible first. We are afraid to actually sand it because the veneer/finish layer is nearly paper thin and we worry about sanding through. I can't find any information about just how thick it is (it is #E310 Greenwich Plank Pecan) but it is maybe 1 mm thick. We are currently removing and replacing a section of the flooring due to a refrigerator water leak which caused significant damage. Of course, this job is a bear but we are making good progress. Fortunately we had a full box of the flooring left from the original installation. After having this much damage occur from an appliance leak we don't ever want to be in this situation again. This is why we want to screen and recoat. Our thinking is that if there is another layer of polyurethane covering the whole floor water won't be able to get to the side and end joints (this is where the most damage occurs from moisture). What products would you recommend we use? We are thinking either the Bona or Tykote products because they have an adhesion enhancing product as part of their system. Would you recommend them or do you use something else? Thank you!

Thanks. I'm not talking about laminate. These are called hardwood engineered flooring (like the brand Acqua that's sold in Home Depot). Are you saying that NO hardwood engineered flooring is water-resistant and scratch-proof and I should just go with a wood that has a thicker veneer (like 2mm or higher)?

Watch the video on the Leviton Concrete Floor Boxes webpage. I think you would instruct the people installing the carpet to just cut the pad and carpet around the box, leaving the box sticking up above the concrete with the yellow protective cover in place. After you replaced the carpet with the hardwood, you'd follow the instructions to remove the protective cover, cut the box to the proper height, and complete the installation. -- amateur
