D600 Engine Question

Does anyone know the approx operating temperature of a D600?

The reason I ask is that I am installing a new piston. The LB manual says to orient the openings of the snap rings (that capture the wrist pin) either toward the piston top or piston skirt to minimize the chance of them getting out. Unfortunately, the snap ring grooves in the new piston were cut a little large in diameter, so the snap rings spin freely. They will not maintain their orientation (the snap rings fit tight in the old piston). So I am considering eliminating the snap rings and machining teflon buttons to press into each end of the wrist pin - like some model airplane engines use. I checked the head, there are no port openings in the path of the buttons.

Teflon is good to about 500F.

Bad idea?
