Lawn Boy 7023 Pull Cord Broke

Hello,

I got my Lawn Boy 7023 some 10+ years ago from a garage

sale for something like $25! Always worked like a charm.

I give it 1 squirt of 'engine starter fluid' on the air

intake filter and it always starts on the first (or 2nd)

pull, even after a long winter storage. One thing it does

not like, is running out of gas. After re-filling the tank,

it always gave me big problems to start. I think it floods?

Anyway, it happened to me again today.

And then the pull cord broke...

I removed the top shroud to see how to replace the cord.

It does not seem very simple to me and before I start

messing around, I would like to ask if anybody had

some experience with this.

It seems that the reel (where the cord winds) is split

in the middle with a hole where the cord gets secured.

There are 4 little bolts that hold the two reel halves

together and (I think) secure the end of the cord

(like a vise). Removing the bolts is not going to be easy.

They are on the inside (towards the engine) in a tight spot,

but by rotating the reel, one can position each bolt at

the bottom where there is some more access space.

Am I right? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

George (NJ).
