any chance of rooting these?

A bud of mine was clearing some big trees and dropped on on top of a Autumn Roas Plum sapling and an undertrmined Peach sapling... Breaking both. Luckily they had already started to go dormant and drop leaves. He just stuck them on some water and when I grabeed them(2 days later) they were stil green and pliant, I pruned the wounded whips and treated w/ pruning tar, hopefully it will survive.

I took the broken bits and pruned then down to "7 node" cuttings and dusted the bottom ends w/ rooting poweder , wrapped in damp paper towels and set them, standing up, inside empty tennis ball tubes on the door of the fridge.

Is there any chance that they might root, what can I do to encourage rooting beyond what I have already done?
