Honda HR215HMA starting issue

Hello all,

I have a Honda Masters HR215HMA walkbehind that over the last few years has developed an annoying trait. This machine will start on the first pull when cold, but after running it for an hour or so, and I go to restart it, it is less than willing to cooperate. As silly as it sounds, when I attempt to restart it warm, it will "hiccup" a little before it "catches" and resumes running normally.

I just got it back from the shop in hopes of having this problem rectified, and to their credit it has improved (they found water/rust in the carb bowl). They replaced the carb bowl, flushed the fuel system, and cleaned the carb.

When my other Honda mower with the same GXV140 engine fires right up hot or cold without any trouble, I cannot help but wonder what could be causing the problem in the Masters. Once running, it runs like a top (no surging or uneven RPMs). I also checked the fuel cap to make sure the vent was not plugged. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Josh
