Hello,

I am new here. I posted some pics of my fairy garden on a pond site and a pond friend there said you all might enjoy seeing Gladys. I'll post a few more pics here. I make most of the pieces and combine them with real plants. I have a website too, if you would like to see more. It's not set up to purchase, it just has pictures www.ittybittyblooms.com

I have an old regrigerator that came with the house and have it running in my garage. I use it for "overflow" such as an extra gallon of milk and for beverages. I am not a big beer drinker but a very cold one is nice coming in from mowing in really hot weather. I realize using something like this is not practical, but could be used in working out kinks. I have no idea whether a contolled very low light condition in summer, coupled with low temperature could be done. There are small water chillers and cold recirculating water could keep a cubic foot of air at 40 degrees without being too costly. In keeping marine aquariums metal halide lamps are often used for coral. They give off so much heat that chillers are needed to keep from cooking everything is a tank. These are quite small. I realize this is virgin ground. But who would have thought that putting a poinsietta in a closet would be a good idea. I was thinking about moisture and crown rot and would guess dirtless soil with moisture gels would need to be used also.

I'm happy to hear you are getting compliments. It's well deserved. Sometimes those property managers can be real sticklers, so it's good to hear that your display is appreciated. I do have to say every time I see the ones on that railing, it makes me nervous. We have terrible wind here so that's probably why. Are they anchored somehow?

Brandy, your nice little patio area is perfect for your plants Which are looking good! Fire Island looks like it has 3 eyes, is that less then before? If it’s been in that pot for awhile, it might time to remove it and see how the roots are. It could be that they are root bound in that pot and another larger pot would help. Same with the Undulata which are generally easy to grow. Maybe a new world bring it back, although it doesn’t look bad to me, it may have some leaf color instability. Also, Halcyon is a very old and terrific hosta (see my post just below). “I thought I would share this here) which talks about the line from which Halcyon was developed. Also, if you look in the Library under Halcyon, you will see how many plants developed from Halcyon. It’s amazing. The stores don’t carry it because they are generally interested in the most recent hostas and hostas of the year, to which Halcyon belongs........can’t remember the year. If you want Halcyon many of the online venders sell it. Several are linked on the front page of the Library. Others that I have used are: Hornbakers Garden (gallon sized) plants, Naylor Creek hosta nursery, good quality plants and favorite of many forum members, Maple Creek Dayliles ( they sell hostas, daylilies and companion plants, Uniquely Hostas, Plant Delights Nursery, Land of the Giants Hosta Farm, New Hampshire Hostas well my goodness, I just ran on and on this afternoon! Very cute ! I came across a website for fairy gardens that makes the most fantastic houses. I don't have the link to it, but the site is called Enchanted Gardens Creative Fairy Houses. It's a great place to go to for inspiration for your next project.

What awesome miniatures you have in your garden! I like the fairy helping a frog back into the water and the little bird bath. I have always loved "bitsies" as I called them as a kid. I tend to pick up weird little things like a metal pink rooster and a tiny jade elephant by my computer. There is really no use for them but they are too adorable to pass up.

Welcome to Garden Junk. Fairy Gardens have always been a popular topic here.

A fairy garden can be whatever pleases the gardener. My fairy gardens run to ferns and mosses; acorn caps and broken seashells; dried lichens and mushrooms. Sometimes I put ceramic animal figures inside broken flower puts turned on their sides.

I do have a ceramic fairy that was a gift. In the winter I sometimes wrap her in Spanish moss because she looks so cold in her summer dress.

Nell, I love that little fairy piano! How cool is that? I always think the fairy stuff looks best in a wooded area or hidden amongst the flowers. I always think of fairies as being somewhat timid so I can't picture them romping about out in the open. Or do I know the wrong fairies?
