I gave it a bit of stain and a coat of poly...so now it's up on the outside basement wall by the garage door. I used gourds, dried weeds, Indian corn and the only fake thing is the autumn leaves and little owl. Can't wait to decorate it for Winter! Thanks again for all your ideas on the previous post. Jeanne S...looking for a couple metal funnel shaped vases for winter project...as one of you suggested!

Cait1, I have a brother in Melbourne and we might end up living in Tassie in year or two, I'd love to open a little mosaic studio down there, just a dream but one that will hopefully come true some day in the not so distant future. I haven't bought anything from the US for a while, it was fantastic when our $ was about the same as theirs but not so good at the moment, hopefully it'l pick up again soon and we can start buying again - YAY!! As for the postage I try and get as much stuff as I can that will fit into an $11.95US parcel, I think it holds around 2 or 3 kgs so it works out quite economical to do it that way. Thanks! I spent all day yesterday planting 'em up. Today it's raining, so everything is soggy and drooping. I'll give them a few days to dry out and perk up, then post some pics. Wow, Jeanne- your copper boiler looks just like mine! Maybe next Spring I'll use it for a water feature... Kathy

I've heard good things about Kordes' newer roses being disease-resistant in a variety of conditions- how interesting that many of the roses you've looked at have similar foliage types. I wonder if having smaller leaves is beneficial in itself (smaller target for pests/fungi or promotes better air circulation?), or if the similarity of appearance is a result of using certain disease-resistant parents who just happen to also have small leaves? Sorry- I do tend to overthink things. But I wasn't trying to hijack this thread- I was wondering if the Carruth-like foliage of the rose in question means this is likely to be a Carruth plant, or if that leaf look could be seen as a clue to check out plants with similar ancestry... Given your familiarity with the Carruth roses, do you think any of them has a flower shape that's pretty similar to that of mauvegirl's rose? From what I know about plant genetics (mostly from working with camellias), a plant with a dominant leaf trait is likely to bequeathe that trait to most of its offspring, even if the parent plant is chosen for reasons unrelated to leaf shape. But Mendeleev I'm not, so I may be off-base with this line of inquiry...

Alright, alright..stop hatin' on the purse y'all :) :) My mother tells me it's "quite fashionable", lol. Maybe that should be my first sign to run..not walk away from it :) I'll put some more pics up of the whole space. I'm needing some help pulling some other things together to make this table work. I've been ready and quite willing for awhile to make a change. And this has helped set me on that path. Kathleen, great idea about using them as an end table. I'll be needing something, once I get rid of some of the other stuff I have. I may have a spot. Although, they're not quite as big in person as they appear in the pic. Thanks again everyone! So far, I've yet to have any buyer's remorse :)

I think that dark color stain next to your light color garage is just absolutely Perfect !!! and you added just the right touch w/flowers and is that grass or hay/straw poking out...

I found my funnel shaped vases at a florist supply place they were only a few bucks each. I would guess the craft stores would carry something like it too...what you created is very cute. and like I mentioned obviously this piece is very versatile, easy to change up for the season/occasion or as the whim hits you :) JUNK is so much fun....

I liked it plain but decorated it sure looks fantastic! Of all the things to catch my eye, it had to be that cute little owl in the planter on the left.
