Craftsman Lawn mower won't stay on
Comments (20)thats exactly what i did and the engine sounded better, as mentioned earlier i soaked the whole carb in Gunk Carb cleaner over night and then pored some in the gas tank and it made things better. Yesterday when i was running it for 45 minutes i kept shutting off the valve to see if the shut off valve works and it did as the engine would shut off after a while. My question earlier is how do i get 10/19 to come out as it is obstructed by the threads to the bowl nut from dropping out....See MoreCraftsman Riding Lawn mower won't start
Comments (2)It is possible that you have 2 different issues. It is hard to tell from your description if you are saying that the wind down noise is the noise of the starter running and if it is, is it running w/o the key switch activated. Solenoids are the most likely cause for allowing the starter to run on- but not the only one. They are not typically a fuse blower- but could be. On a 4 post solenoid one of the 2 small wires supplies a ground and the other 12 volts when the key switch is activated. If I am assuming something I shouldn't, please elaborate on what you believe the noise is....See MoreCraftsman LT2000 Riding lawn mower engine won't crank
Comments (5)Thanks for the response. It's definitely a Briggs engine. Or let me put it this way, there's a big 'ol Briggs and Stratton stamp on it. The model # is 31G77. I believe that's right. Good point. Getting a voltage reading is not a true indicator of whether or not the battery is good. It wasn't smoking, only when it conked out. It was laboring, laboring, laboring, then it conked out and threw out a puff of smoke. The reason why I'm GUESSING the engine is a little sieged is because when I turn the key, it appears I have good power going toward the cranking process (you can hear and feel that jolt of energy), yet the engine "stops" it. It's almost as though there's a heavy break on the engine. When I try and spin the engine from the top by hand, it won't budge. Then again, I have no idea if you normally can spin it by hand because I've never tried to do that! Sorry for being such a newbie. From the little research that I've seen taking the spark plug out and putting penetrating oil down it, waiting an hour then trying to manually move the pistons by hand as a *possible* solution. Again, this is assuming I'm right and the engine's seized....See Morecraftsman 917270670 tractor , mower won't engaged
Comments (7)I got a call from one of my customers. He said the mower deck wouldn't go down. The blades turned, but the deck refused to lower. So, i went over to his place and looked at it. I found the knob that controls the height of the deck was turned all the way to "high" and it never got close to the grass! This was also a Craftsman tractor mower. I think his kids must of messed with it, to harass him. When i was around ten or so years of age, our Uncle would take me, my brother, and several cousins to town for ice cream and "pop". He drove an old Hudson/Terraplane make of car, and it had an electric shift controller on it, and had a removable floor shifter handle, which could be used for when the battery was low! He'd always go into the tobacco shop, so us kids would stay in the car. And of course, we'd bug him in all kinds of ways. We'd shut off the electric shift and hide the floor shifter handle, and he'd cuss a blue streak since he couldn't make the car move without it!...See Morerussph3
