Bermuda Vr centipede

Ok here is the problem! my front yard looks like CRAP! its is mixed with weeds, centiped, and some other grasses that i dont even know the name of! i now have planted Princess 77 on my side and the two are slpit by a driveway. but my problem is,,, i wont princess 77 in my front, but i cant overseed because its to thick, and i have to cut it every other day due to annual bluegrass, but i dont wont to kill it(becaus then it will be very ugly). Also it have a few springs of comm bermuda growing. so what do i do?

You cannot have it both ways. If you want Princes, then you have to prepare the planting bed. Only other way is sod, but even that requires grading.

It's a piece of cake it just costs $.
Start off with Roundup, the biggest bottle you can find or use the roundup pro if in your budget. Then spray it all over the grass you want to kill. Then wait a week and do it again. Then wait two weeks and do it again. Just keep repeating until it's all done. Scalp the dead grass by mowing as low as possible. Even better if you can remove the wheels from your mower to get down to about half inch. Then fill in any low spots with soil if necessary and you can broadcast seed over the area. Then from here out you follow the directions on the bag or from the seed dealer.

You don't need a soil test to know what fertlizer Bermuda needs. It needs nitrogen and a lot of it. Centipede hates nitrogen and fertile soil. Only problem your soil test mike show up is a very low PH which is likely since you had Centipede and it could be a huge problem. Centipede can only thrive in PH of 5.9 and lower. 5.9 and below Bermuda and all other grasses will struggle and die off eventually. To eliminate the Centipede assuming the soil PH is above 6.0 is just read the Bible and follow it. Centipede cannot compete with Bermuda. You cannot use any herbicide right now. Late in the summer if the Centipede hangs around long enough just use any poet emergence herbicide that contain one or a combination of diclofop, metribuzin and 2,4-D + triclpyr. If your soil test comes back with a PH of 5.0 to 5.5 I have real bad news for your Bermuda grass and great news for the Centipede grass. One will die, and the other will flourish.

IÃ¢ÂÂm not in the expert crowd here, so please take this with a grain of urea. I think itÃ¢ÂÂs too late for both fertilizer and pre-m. You want to get pre-m down prior to weeds coming in, so around September. Once that is down, you can add more if you like for longer protection 8 weeks-ish later if you like. Then, like the Bermuda Bible says, put something like Dimension down when the Forsythia blooms, in late Feb to late March depending on temps (soil temps around 50F). As far as fertilizer, you donÃ¢ÂÂt want to push your Bermuda too much when it should be going dormant. That will lead to winter kill and wasted money. My nickelÃ¢ÂÂs worth of free advice is to wait until the early spring. If you are still itching to put something down, grains or Milorganite are good no matter what the calendar says . . .

Solarize the soil, then install a barrier around the plot. It works. It's the only way I've ever beaten Bermuda. I've built a bed on top of it, covered with cardboard, tried to dig it out, scrape it out with a tractor, etc. My ex tried Roundup, but it still came back. Just Google up "solarizing the soil" or "how to solarize soil" or something like that and you'll find loads of pages telling how. Basically, you wet the area well, cover with clear plastic and tuck the edges in (be sure to do that as if you don't the heat will escape and it won't work, or atleast not as well). Digging a trench around the area, then putting the edges in the trench and backfilling with the removed soil works fabulous, and you can install the barrier at the same time. I've used 12" metal flashing before, half in the ground and half out, and it does wonderfully. Leave this on for a couple/three months and all the bermuda rhizomes and seeds (along with most weed seeds) are killed. It also damages the soil bacteria and other organisms down there, so you can use this to kill disease pathogens as well. It kills good "soil bugs", too, so your plot will benefit from a dose of aerated compost tea and/or molasses after you're done. I just saw on a gardening show the other day that if you use two layers of plastic with something between them to hold them apart and create an insulating air space, this can be accomplished in a matter of days. I plan to try that this year.

The lawn fairy isn't going to come by, wave a magic wand, and poof - new bermuda lawn. If you want to install a new lawn, you have to kill off the old one and replant. It isn't that hard, but you will have dead grass for a week or so and then a bit of a mess for a couple of weeks until the new grass starts growing.

Forget centepede, is not dark green. Bermuda wins hands down - specially Princess 77.

TifBlair Centipede is pretty dark. Just as dark as Bermuda.

I don't think so. Centipede is Apple green in color no matter how fertilizer. In fact, if you fertilize it too much, you'll kill it.

I'm not fond of Bermudagrass because up here in NC is brown for much of the year, but if I had to decide between the two I will definately go with Bermuda.

Also, depending on where you are located (zone) it might not be cold hardy.

My neighbor's TifBlair Centipede is just as green as my Tifway 419 Bermuda.

Just sayin'.

All the information I've read does not mention color improvement, which in Centepede will be a huge thing. If Tifblair Centepede was a dark green as Bermuda Tifblair, it will be all over the place. The fact that they don't bother to mention the color says it all.

Centepede is Apple green in color, lacy's man grass for the deep south. Poor cold tolerance north of Macon, GA.

SW of Wilmington. Just across the Intracoastal from Southport. Just East of Holden Beach. Oak Island used to be Long Beach and Yaupon Beach, but cosolidated about 10 years ago.

Any warm season grass. Centipede is by far in most yards. Bermuda and Zoysia are spread here and there. St Augustine is becoming more popular.

Centipede popular in Wilminton, NC - interesting. The grass goes dormant in the winter I'm sure, for how long?

St. Augustine is a terrible looking grass, it sort of looks like cultured crabgrass. I know is very popular in Florida because of its shade tolerance, but it's so ugly. The blades are so thick and grows so fast.

Zoysia makes the best appearance of the warm season grasses, look at this:

It's Cavalier Zoysia. It looke very much like Emerald.

Wonderful turf, extreamely dense.

Your B-419 makes a great turf under the right conditions, could you post some pics?

Centipede is usually dormant from mid-late November to Late March.

Man, that Zoysia looks awesome. Where did you get the pic? Is that your yard?

I'll see if I can get some pics of the Bermuda....where it's not being invaded by centipede.

What? Bermuda being invaded by Centipede??? You must be kidding, right? Unless is in the shade, I can't see Centipede overtake the Bermuda. In fact, the opposite, Bermuda is the king of encroachment.

That's my neighbor's Zoysia just sodded in late July las year. It does not look that good right, it suffered extensive winter damage. It's just recuperating from the injuries. He has since purchase a "reel" type mower, and the lawn is getting better every day. He promissed me he is going to let use the reel mower to cut my bluegrass in the fall - I can't harly wait. I'm going to bring it down to 1" to imitate blue carpet...
