Rejuvinating old pear and apple trees

I just inherited a piece or property from my grandparents. It has on the property two very old apples and a pear. I believe they must be at least 50 years old. The main branches on one of the apples are over a foot in diameter! The pear has not produced for years, so my thought is that it does not have a pollinator near.

I have heard that apples only last for about 25 years. Does this mean the branches or the roots? If I try grafting new stock onto the old rootstock (topwork?) Will this be a worthwhile endeavor? If so, what type of graft should I use? I will need to remove much old dead wood. Shall I try?

This spring I purchased a Red Klapp's Favorite and it is still in a pot. If it blooms in the spring will a tiny little tree produce enough pollen to pollenize the old pear tree?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated!
