the Starbucks myth

How many times have you heard "go to Starbucks and they will give you used coffee grounds for your garden"? Is this is a major marketing ploy of the coffee giant to promote themselves as environmentally conscience thereby capturing the organic crowd? I've put coffee grounds into my soil well before it was a fad, so getting additional UCGs from Starbucks seemed like a good idea. I decided to check it out. I went to 7 Starbucks and 1 shop provided me a small bag of UCG. Two of the seven stated they did not do that anymore while one said they would save some if I called ahead. The others said they didn't have any with no other explanation. Have others had this same response? Don't forget, not long ago Starbucks was busted by the newspaper The Sun, for wasting 6 million gallons of water every day, enough to quell the thirst of a small African nation. Are they faking the Green simply to make the Green?
