Got mud bucket finished

I go the mud bucket finished, awhile back, and I forgot to put the eyes on the little bee peeking out of the beehive. I have fixed it but, I have misplaced my camera cord to charge it and my camera is dead. So, I decided to go ahead and post it. It sits among some trees at the front of our driveway, I put a garland of apples around the top of it.

I clear coated it 3 times so it should be okay. It still has a few little holes from the rust, but I kinda like it that way! I want to plant some kale or poppies in front of it, like they are spilling out, but they are not quite out for sale yet, maybe a few more weeks.

This is really beautiful, I truly envy someone who can paint like this. I like the rust too! It looks great with that colorful art. Hope you find your camera cord and take some more photos to post!

Great job. I agree with nana about painting like this. I f I have the outline I'm ok, but can't paint otherwisw. Anyway I do like this and will look nice in your garden.

Hi, how do you make the reservoir bigger. I got most of my white buckets (the ones I use for the bottom bucket from Burger King). I buy the orange buckets that I use for the top bucket from Home Depot. Sometimes the white buckets are made a little different and the orange bucket goes further down into the bottom bucket, so there is not as much room for the water reservoir--I have to add water to them more often. Also, how much lime do you put in each bucket? Is lawn lime the same? What does it do for the plants? I see you are from Florida. I live in the Panhandle and we had a horrible storm last night with 50 MPH winds and hard rain. It knocked over several of my buckets and broke some of the tomatoe vines on one plant. I stuck a few pieces in water, and I put a few just back in the bucket--hope they root for me because it was my favorite tomatoe--the grape one, which has been making lots of tomatoes. MORE rain, I can't believe 3 weeks later and it's just been more of the same! Had over 1" the other night, probably have that today since it is pouring (though not overflowing the gutters since DH cleaned them out after water started pooling under the porch and coming into the basement). Planted a couple dozen pepper plants on Friday, still haven't put out tomatoes and the rest of the peppers (put them back in garage this AM, we've been going in and out so much I don't know if they know they're hardened off LOL). Tomato trellis is all up and I started digging for squash bed but yesterday the tomato trenches were wet on the lower end (a couple really wet) and the squash bed looked like a hog wallow. I did add some pebbles to the bottom of 1 trench, dug out farther for drainage, and added some partially-composted wood chips and more top soil to all the trenches. We'll see how it looks Monday when the rain stops. I don't know if I'm even going to plant squash this year - though I finally started 6 cukes inside the other day. I bought 2 rain barrels - didn't hook them up, but just left the tops off this AM - we'll see how much they collect in 48 hrs! Need to get the sauerkraut washed out of them. I'm just hoping I can plant out 60 tomatoes and about 30 peppers b/t Monday and Thurs - then the rains come again! With the drought and the floods in the South, and all this rain in the Northeast, is anybody going to be able to grow any crops this year? CA doing OK? How's FL? Are we all going to have to live off canned goods for the next year?

Thanks again, The soldiers were in the combat town and on the hill in this run to make it more fun. It was something new. Jules, you might want to do it next June. You have to sign up in January. and your drive is a little farther, but it's a nice drive early in the morning. A lot of people at this race fly in from other states. The website is below. You can see a lot of photos there. Some people run in teams, but the team has to cross the finish together. NO ONE would pick me for their team, lol! My normal walk is 3 miles and it's pretty hilly, and 6 miles once a week or so. It doesn't make me sore to do this, even though I have stamina, but no speed. Cheese gurl, I don't know where you live, but there are nutty 5 and 10ks all over. Check online for any in your area. If there's nothing near you, it might be possible to get something started. The LA county sheriff and a lot of other organizations have 10ks around here all the time. There may be a group near you who would organize one of these. I'll bet this mud run started small many years ago and it's very popular now. These things raise a huge amount of $$$ for charitable causes. I had a list when I was 14, and at the top was to marry a Danish girl and move to Denmark. My father found the list and tried to convince me not to marry a foreigner. I guess he might be a bit xenophobic, but that wouldn't have stopped me. Eventually I decided that I could never survive the winters in Denmark. I chose Denmark because I thought the Scandinavian countries were the most civilized at the time, and I liked their governmental policies. I think the next thing on my list is to visit the Costa Rican rain forest. I was hoping to do that either this year or next. I have several unfinished writings I want to complete, and the one I am currently working on is a comic book version of Maria Morevna and the Evil Sorcerer. It's been translated before, but I translated it from German and Russian versions which are more detailed than currently available English versions. Some of those were translated from French, and the French and English versions leave out the gory details of the German and Russian versions. Kevin is supposed to do the artwork for the book, and I am currently doing the storyboard for the comic book version. If we get it finished, we could propose that it be made into a movie. I expect the comic book to be about 50 pages, and so it's going to take a while. Lars

You sure turned something rusty into a thing of beauty!! It turned out great, and I like the idea of planting the kale "spilling" out of it. Did you use acrylic craft paint? I hope you will take a picture when you've got it all set up the way you want it!

awww, you guys are the bestest!!!Thx for your kind words. I overplayed the beehive in proportion to the tree, but I was just so excited when I was painting it, I never stopped and when I got up and stood back, I knew it was too big, but I was too tired to fix it then, so it got left that way.
Countrygrl, everything was acrylics except the sky, that was interior wall paint, but I made sure it got 3 coats of sealer. The beehive is a shimmery gold acrylic.
Thx, maybe I can find some kale and pansies this week-end and take another pic.

It turned out very pretty. I didn't notice the proportion of the hive to the branch until you pointed it out. lol! The hive does look pretty in the metallic gold. Can't wait to see it when you have it all planted up!

And I agree about the rust ... just adds extra charm!

Jeanne, that's right!! It had an axle in the middle with wheels. That way you could tip it out when you were done mixing. It has a small handle across one side for tilting the bucket. First one I had ever seen, my neighbor across the street was moving and gave it to me. My husband knew what it was but I didn't. I thought it was broke or something with only one axle!LOL!
Luna, see, I never know when to stop talking! Me and my big mouth. My husband says that I need that shirt that says, "Help, I'm talking and I can't shut-up!"LOL!
