Plate flowers - NEW idea

Love the spoon backs. Love the spoon cut to a flower shape. Love the leaves cut in copper tubing. What the heck, love all the ideas!!!

I'm SOooo terrible, can't throw out anything...

Here's one I just came up with, hope this helps. We've all broken a special piece. Or, you find something with just a chip missing. Surfing around, I found this site, not a lot great EXCEPT this piece!

Why can't we adopt this for the centers of flowers??? BREAK THE PIECE!!! I have a great Cobalt Blue bowl, chipped on the edge. I'm waiting for my daughter to come home from school to find out where her Rock Tumbler is. Tumble the glass to remove sharp edges.

Then, rather than fusing, we can just GE II pieces to the plate! This would make for an interesting 3-D effect.

This would also cover up a scratch or imperfection on an otherwise great plate!

Remember to put the item in a bag before shattering to prevent pieces from flying.

Thats a really cool piece. I like your idea of trying to do it for plate flower centers. Calamity_j gave me a rock tumbler this summer, maybe I'll try glass in it!
By the way, you can smooth the edges of broken dishes by putting the pieces 2/3 full in a cool whip or similar plastic container, covering with water and a drop of dish soap. Then shake for a total of about 10 minutes or so. I do it in intervals and check when I think its been about 10 min. I stack them up and do 2 at a time. My main problem is breaking things with out cutting myself, lol.

Very cool idea, giggles! I thought of doing something like that with broken up glass globs. I'll have to dig out my rock tumbler to see how this works. Thanks for sharing the idea!

Hi Cait, Yes those leaves are cut out and soldered on(-: The stems are copper wire. Drilled holes into the copper pipe and shoved the wire/leaf in and soldered it in place. The blue plate has a new home and the green one does too. So off they go...(-:

nanatricia, the one I want is a silicone slit mold. do you think it will work for concrete? It is expensive, but when you figure I would have to pay $8 to $12 each for a little concrete bird, then I would get my money's worth in 3 or 4 castings. The seller has 10 of them on Ebay. Thank you for the advice of all the types of flowers. I checked some of them out and would love to add these. If online, what is a good place to purchase plants? I know I'll have a hard time finding some of these plants. I took some pictures of my ditch. It's such an open area and so long I don't know how to start. I guess I'll just start by planting my taller items closer to the rocks and placing cardboard and mulch around the newly planted items to keep the weeds from taking over. Then adding the shorter smaller items later on. Sounds good? Other ideas? Is it too late to seed outdoors? The potential garden area is now a ditch about 70 feet in length 5-20 feet across - shaped like a skinny triangle. The dead grassy area is where the old weeds grew and there are river rocks underneath. To the left are the apple trees. The pictures are looking Northwest ditch runs N - S Thanks!

I love the look and if I had a kiln would certainly do that.

I've tried tumbling broken glass in our rock tumbler but it takes a long time to smooth off the edges and then it looks like beach glass. I've thot of using our cement mixer and may yet do that.

I think that crash glass (broken safety glass) would work glued on with GE Silicone II and even if not smooth on the edges it's not really a hazard as glass flowers don't have to be handled much.

I bot a candle holder that's made with broken glass and used it for a glass garden flower. It's very heavy so I hope it holds when I put it on a stem. I think the edges might have been heated as they are not sharp. Looking at the pic again I see it needs more embellishment.

THanks for sharing that site. I love the glass lace idea. I have been doing the broken glass idea for a while now. I just never thought of using it for plate flowers. I will have to give it a try and see what I get.

luckygal...luv the aqua pc...how about some pearly "seed beads" glued (clumped tog)for the center?...or something transparent? Lovely broken glass! TFS! Jeanne S.
