I used a combination of adhesives..GE II to glue the glass pcs to the iron candle holder and liquid nails clear interior/exterior to glue the marbles to the metal scrolly base and the base to the plate. We'll see which holds up the best although I'm a little hesitant to put her out in the harsh elements! I'm not sure how long to let her cure before exposing her? I've also decided she needs a name...maybe Gertie or Tillie or Rose? I'm so excited, I'm going to be in the inspiration album!!

Hello! Forgive me if you have seen this before, but I wanted to share. I just covet your blue glass! its my favorite! If you are still hesitant to put a totem outide, consider using your beloved pieces, to make something for the table top. This totem I made, the one with the plum colored glass, on the right, has a candle holder on the top, but it also stands upside down, so that it can also be used as a flower vase. Good luck! HI Busylizzy I think that much of the cheap glass is just coated with color. So you have to be careful what you buy. On the other hand there are people here who paint glass so I am wondering if the new cheap stuff is sealed, maybe with spray on urethane, will it keep the color? I'm going to experiment with a red vase that I bought at sa. And a few cute plates that I got at the dollar store. (I'll spray half with urethane and set them out in the winter sun.) I will let you all know. I should have realized the vase wasn't colored through cuz there is a tiny spot where the color has come off. Check your lamp glass carefully. I suspect that it is solid color throughout due to the age. Maybe you could email one of the people selling them on ebay and ask if the glass color fades (is that devious.) Metal to glass. Somewhere on this forum I read to use plumbers goop for metal to glass. I haven't been able to find that thread since, but that's what I've been doing. Except for a part which had too much weight for a small amount of surface contact it has been a very strong bond. But it is more evil smelling that the ge s ii. I think most folks here have been ok with silicone ii so I'm not sure what happened with yours. I am doing a project at work which involves using silicone ii and the directions say if it overflows and drys to clean it up with xylene or tolulene. Both are bad stuff, and I don't know if one could clean up large amounts of ge s ii with xylene, but if I needed to I would try that (after razorblading most of it), since I've got some. Good luck. Other then a great selection of cultivars that will eventually turn your property into a thing of beauty I should like to add a few other comments. With the Acer palms coming from Oregon in late February I would be hesitant about putting them in the ground until the last frost occurs in your area if any have broken bud. Standly never ships Acers till after the last frost which is late April here in KC. The same could apply to you even if Z.7 in Tenn with a late freeze. All the red leaf Acers palms will take a hit if broken bud and this happens. I would not amend the soil. Crown root flare 2" above grade and no more then 2" of mulch. Applies to all plants. Carefully inspect potted root bound plants. Take necessary measures to correct root bound stock. If anything is B&B remove all burlap and wire cage if so supplied. Cupressus glabra 'Raywood Weeping' needs to be permanently staked for height other wise it will lay on ground. Best presentation if staked. Pinus banksiana Schoodic very suspectacle to Scale. Picea pungens 'Glauca Pendula' needs to be staked for height. A striking conifer if done right. Very unstable if left to free range which is not so bad either. Good choice. Picea pungens 'Fastigata' A Iseli conifer with a broader growth habit then Picea p.'Blue Totem'. Both great conifers with 'Blue Totem' better suited for limited space constraints. Pinus thunbergii 'Thunderhead' will not tolerate heavy snow loads and it does snow in Tenn so keep cleaned out. Last but not least...because I like to spend other peoples money I would also recommend several (Alaskan cedars) Chamaecyparis nootkatensis. No garden is complete without these beautiful conifers. I would be interested to know if you have a master design plan that gives consideration to height, color contrast, sun and shade issues just to mention a few for best presentation. Remember all these conifers will grow till they die. Don't be fooled by the 10 year growth size & height that are listed. Allow plenty of room as some of these will get big. When the truck arrives and you get it all unloaded send us a photo. Dave
