Snapper Drive belt coming off

I have a commercial Snapper with the Robin engine and aluminum deck. I know this is an older mower and love the engine. My drive belt keeps popping off. I cannot see any adjustments to be made. Also right before this the mower would take off when you pulled it backwards. I recently bought this mower and want to get it fixed and working right. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

My old V212 aluminum deck Snapper had the same problem - my fix was simple - the drive pulley had some "wobble", and was the cause of the belt coming loose. I say simple because the reason for the wobble was a loose nut on the pulley shaft. Tightened it up and haven't had a problem since. But sometimes the shaft gets worn, and the resulting play in the shaft may cause it. But that's just my experience, there might be other causes?

My Snapper Hi-Vac mower with a Kawasaki engine would throw the belt after having it for a few months. The problem was the alignment of the pulley on the crankshaft. I just moved the pulley on the crankshaft to get the correct alignment, and it has never failed again.

Is the idler pulley keeping tension on the belt? There is also a bent wire belt guide there to adjust too. The idler pulley shaft rotates under the drive disc. Does it move freely? There is no harm in moving your drive pulley to align with another pulley if there is no interference. Loosen the set screw and move it. This post was edited by baymee on Tue, Apr 16, 13 at 15:01

The left tension pulley on my LT 1045 Cub Cadet was about 1/2 inch to low and at an angle that took it out of a horizonal plane with the ajacent pullys. Took deck off and removed the bracket that holds both tension pullys. Put the defective pulley in a metal vise and hammered it so that its angle when reinstalled was parralell to the ajacent pullys. This solved the problem. I called Cub Cadet and spoke with the technical representative and he told me that the bracket I had to bend was bent out of shape because I, as many people do, engaged the electric pto to the blades while the deck was in level 3 to mow. He told me to put the deck in its highest position before engaging the pto to engage the blades. This alleviates the stress on the Kevlar belt that is trying to come up to 3600 rpm while in the grass before they start to rotate. This can eventually bend the bracket that holds the tension pulleys. He said he is trying to tell the company to include this in the owners manual.

Broken brackets or bolts out of the torque brackets that keep the transaxle from rocking can cause a belt to come off the rear pulley. Lock the brake and see if you can rock the transaxle. Know that oem belts need to be used on these as well. Any work been done on this?

Where can you get to the nut on the pulley shaft? I have noticed the wobble in the drive pulley. I think it needs to move some to function though I am not certain. Thanks.

The number one (common issue) would be pulley alignment.
The second (common issue) would be belt tension.
The third (common issue) would be smooth even belt motion.

Verify all three are corrected, as one or more are causing the issue, and it should be fine.

Back in the day before rider mower ownership, I rented a big zero turn mower and every time the deck was lowered enough to cut the grass, the belt jumped off.
One pulley was supposed to slide up and down it's shaft to compensate for deck height adjustment and it had become stuck on it's shaft.
