glider re-done

Well, I need to buy more paint, and I need to clean up my paint line a bit, but I wanted to share this, so I couldn't wait.

This glider was actually my Mamaw's, then my mom had (still has)it. I only ever remember it being green. Mom started to paint it earlier this summer, this red, then ran out of paint! I took my girls - you are coming to learn how creative they are from my posts, right? - to Lowes to get another boring color to paint it. Then they suggested these colors, I LOVE IT!

Mom, not so much, but my Mamaw would have loved it, I'm sure.

The colors aren't so true in the picture, but they are a pale lilac and pistachio. The old swing in the first picture is gone, I bought a new one, the cars in the other pict = neighbors, there are only 2 of them.

I just love gliders, don't you?? Nothing like having a cool drink and "gliding" for a while outside just listening to all of the wonderful outside sounds.....Great job! Enjoy it!!

I love it! I would love to have some chairs like that, but the only ones I've seen here were almost $100 apiece and were in bad shape.I really like gliders, too. We almost bought one this spring, but decided on a porch swing instead.

I have put some planting on hold until I get moisture we are about 7 inches behind on rain . I worked some seed beds they turn to dust with the wind blowing., going to plant okra and hope for rain. I selected about 20 out of 80 tomatoes and started watering today

It's not often you see a kitchen in the front of the house! Interesting… but have you considered turning it 90* and moving it to where the dining area is? That is a HUGE dining area… not sure if I am seeing the plans correctly as they are a little blurry. There would be enough room at the rear to have a breakfast nook or a small sitting area. I would move the dining room up front and open the wall off the foyer. It would feel bigger and less compartmentalized. In the master bath, maybe consider moving the water closet/toilet (turn it 90*) toward the front of the house where the left-hand closet is. This would allow you to expand your laundry room a bit too. (IMHO, your laundry room is too small for the size of the house!). THen, you could move the left hand closet to the space between the right closet and the shower. You would no longer have the WC jutting into the other closet.

Funk if you have the time and patience it would definitely be worth it. After you prep each piece they are about 1/4-3/8in thick. It took about 300 pieces to make a 30x60in table top. Depending on where you live it's probably going to be heart pine, cedar, or fur all of which are beautiful. It's more time consuming to save it since you can't just go at a wall with a sledge but it is really a shame so much of it just gets thrown out. Maybe you can work something out where you can have the wood for free if you remove it from a home.

The tile done in the second picture of my first post is actually 6 x 36 wood look porcelain tile ( a different company though). It is laid the same way as mine. It is was done by the main tiler and looks beautiful. It is 1/8 grout lines no lippage at all! I would post a picture of it but it is all covered up right now. I was harsh about the second guy helping him because he had already cut a lot of corners with other things. He wasted a lot of tile getting cuts wrong - which the other contractors themselves were complaining about and bringing some to my attention. Some really bad cuts I noticed he tried to pressure me in to accepting - when I almost caved another one came to me and confirmed it was not good. He basically tiled my kitchen and left the molding on the wall. On top of that all the cuts against the molding were jagged. Like one part would up against the molding and the farthest was .5 to an inch. When I asked what would happen with it he was just answered that it would all be filled in with grout. Dark grout that would make it stand out even more. If that's the case, I can wrap this around my head and get over it. However, if hers is similar to mine and the good tiler is able to do it without lippage in that layout with smaller grout line - I would like to go for it. EDIT:: Is this another possible solution. When they relay it Would relaying it to overlap in thirds instead of 1/2 help. I am not to particular about that if it will help me get the smaller grout lines.

Love both the blue and green! I love the look of those old metal chairs and gliders but they aren't very comfortable to sit on when they get hot! Ouch! Your pretty colors would make it look cool even on the hottest of days. Great job! I bet your mom is thrilled!

On another note ... what do those two neighbors need with all those cars? lol

Beautiful color choices! Its lovely now and your girls did a great job picking the paint. Sorry your Mom doesn't like it but maybe it will grow on her.

Feel for you with all those cars for a "view". I had a neighbor like that at my last house, tho his entire backyard was full of them. Finally we put those slats in the fence so I could sit out and not have to stare at the darn things.

WOW!!! Lucky you and your mom!!! I too love the old gliders and chairs. They are hard to come by around here!! I see them but not for sale. Your girls did a great job on the colors.

Kelly, love the colors on the glider! Now just throw some vintage pillows on it and you will have a blast from the past!!LOL! Hope your mom comes around on the colors, they are very summery. (is that a word??)
I congratulate you on including your girls on the projects. Those are things that they will never forget. I also noticed your curly willow in the background. I have one, too!
