Troy-Built lawnmower handle is to high

Hello,

I have been reading this forum to educate myself about lawnmower maintenance.

I have two lawnmowers. A lawnboy model 10685 with a Tecumseh engine, self-propelled which I love, and a Troy-Built model 466 Briggs & Stratton engine, self propelled.

I bought the lawnboy 3 years ago because the Troy-Built and I just don't get along. The handlebars are just too high, I am 5'2 female and the handlebar comes up to my chin.

My question is, is there any way to buy a shorter lower handlebar, it would have to be the lower one, since the upper part has the trigger handle attached that makes it move?

Other wise I am thinking of getting the lower part cut down but that would involve modifying it after cut-off so that the handlebar could again be attached to the mower.

I would like to keep the Troy-Built for a spare, it is practically new I only used it one summer, it has been sitting in my shed for three years.

I am waiting on the weather to warm up then I will try out my newly acquired knowledge from this forum, to get this thing running again.

So anyway does anyone know if I can buy a shorter handlebar somewhere?

Most mowers have an adjustment for lowering the handle - is it all the way down? Not making it shorter, but changing the angle.

I have already done that, changed the angle on the lower handle. The upper handle can't be lowered, because the flat part is too short that fits against the lower handle.

Have troy built pony from 78 to 81 era. The motor been replace by Honda ge 160. The transmission pulley is sloppy the bolt is tight. You can move it around by hand. What is missing? A key , bearing? Serial number 118349 stamp on transmission frame. Other numbers 20512CT. 8F2 24/82. Tring to find Manuel and parts list.

We inherited a Troy-Bilt tiller with Gardenway TH 1018 on the tiller and a B&S engine # 171437, prob 1992 built. Engine runs great, tines move forward & back, but not fast enough to do more than make a scratch on the ground. Looks like a place for 2 belts, but only one there. Need 2nd belt? Also, don't see any levers for the tine and wheel speeds to be run separately. Only tillers I'm familiar with are the front tine models where you have to pull back really hard to make it dig in. Shouldn't the tires and weight of the machine do that work for me? Any help would be appreciated. Have a friend that "dabbles" in mechanics, but we need a manual or something. -- THANKS!

My $161.95 early bird service for my JD GT275 turned into $375.81 service. see under posting "John Deere Lawn Tractor Buying Advice Needed: X300 or LA series" Thing of it is I've gotten just as good as life out of my Sears, oh well, The same thing happened when I bought a Lincoln Continental, T-birds were just as good but cost a good deal less. Now retired, I sold the Lincoln 2 weeks before I retired, because of the cost factor. Now, I use my wifes Avalon when I need a car, or just climb up into the Dodge Ram - yeh, it's a hemi. Like I've said I like HP. Enjoy, the cub, dragging that deck alittle at the shed door will do alot less damage than leaving it set out in the weather.

Now I love my 15 year old, 8 hp WW Grinder for another reason. It drops its litter right on the ground in a neat mound. I pull it back and start a new mound or clean up the old mound. Nothing gets blown around. It rarely gets clogged---I'd say never, but sometimes I let other people feed it. The other reason I love my WW grinder is that it's the reason I'm here. Back in the late 90s, I wanted to order new flails, so used Excite Search or something for "Chipper flails"---which brought me to Garden Web's Tool forum. I was there about three months, hanging out with tractor owners, before I knew that there were other forums. Thank gosh I did or I would never have learned the importance of changing the air in my chipper tires each fall.

If you have flipped the lower handle, that is about all can be done w/ the existing handles. If your local mower shop stocks a few handles or you see shorter ones on a Troy, Yardman, Yard Machine, White or Cub Cadet mower- look a bit closer as they may interchange.

Any way you can post a picture of the Troy Bilt? I'm not getting what you're saying.

I will try to take a picture of the Troy-Bilt tomorrow and post it. I will also check out a mower shop to see if I can find a shorter handle.
