Where to buy Conquistador grape vines?

I have two questions.

(1) I live in the inland area of San Diego county, California. I want to grow one or two grape vines in my backyard. I did some research on grape vines that are resistant to Pierce's Disease and other diseases. I found Conquistador seems to be a good choice. What do you think? Is it a good choice? How does it taste? Is the acidity level similar to table grapes in supermarkets? Or is it much higher? I have sensitive teeth.

(2) Where to order Conquistador grape vines?

You are probably going to see that all the old Univ. of Florida and younger Mississippi State Univ. PD-resistant bunch-grape releases are hard to find by mail order, and harder still to find already rooted (i.e., not merely cuttings). I searched a year or two ago myself and am still looking for some of them.

If no one else answers, in the next few days I may be able to find record of where I got my "Conquistador" a year or so back. Unfortunately the very limited number of cuttings available this winter from it are already promised.

Since you got your "Conquistador" a year or so back, have the vines produced any grapes?
How do they taste?
How about the acidity level?
Are they sweet?

abfield: I think what we may have here is some misperceptions on your part due to differences in writing styles. I have read a fair number of Herman's posts before. He is a specialist in grapes, and tends to have very firm opinions in this area. When he expresses them, they may sound a little condescending, but I am sure that is not his intention, and equally sure that Herman is not a bad guy at all, who probably has a life many of us would envy. When I post a reply, I have to re-read it several times before hitting the submit button to make sure I do not come across as a know-it-all, condescending s.o.b., and I often make changes when I see something that looks bad. Of course, the best way to do this would be to have someone else read the post before submitting it to see how it sounds, but that is not practical. Most of us who participate in Gardenweb understand this, and try not to look for reasons to take offense. One thing is for sure: Sexual references and direct personal insults are not at all common here. That is one of the things that makes it a pleasure to participate in Gardenweb. Where to buy Grape Vines in Idaho

I'm not sure I can help you find a place to buy grapes. The state of Idaho places limits on where grapes can be brought in from. Due to certain pests like the grape phylloxera, these limits are very strict. You can contact the Idaho State Dept. of Agriculture for more information on getting grapes vines. You might also contact your Ada County Extension Office for help. There are many grapes which are hardy enough to survive Boise winters. The greater limitation is whether there is sufficient heat in the summer to ripen the fruit. This publication can help with that information. Go to a bigger nursery perhaps? Even if they don't have the varieties you want they can probably get them in for you. One we have found to be a very tasty eating grape with very few pips is Flame Seedless.

It was last fall now that I think of it and they have not fruited yet. The plants were healthy and potted, but small, little more than rooted cuttings. Some other much-larger well-rooted though bare-root bunch grapes obtained just a little later, in winter, did in fact fruit the first year though.

I am almost positive I got my "Conquistador" from these folks, though I don't see mention of shipping now in a brief glance at their site. The plants were in containers in artificial soil so some interstate problems are eliminated. Email them via their "Feedback" page if interested. They have other hard-to-find PD resistant bunch grapes too.
