Law Suit Settlement

I received two post cards announcing a potential class action law suit settlements. According to the provided information I would qualify for two of my JD machines. All I have to do is file my claim form before August 31, 2010.

At this time Google only reports the url referred to by the postcard. My JD dealer has just heard about this, but has not received any information from JD.

Any of you kind folks receive a like notification? Is this legit? One wonders as there are so many scams now-a-days.

As far as i know it is legit. I received one but trash canned it. But, that's just me.

This looks legit . Sounds more of a Moral Issue than Safety , Proper Horsepower Rating of Equipment. I wonder if the Snow Blower Manufacturers will have the same problems ?
Seems just a USA Resident Claims Issue. Personally I would deep six the offer unless it was Safety Related , but then again Proper Technical Info is important in some instances and misrepresentation of Facts (if so) may prove to be costly I believe over 65 million dollars if not mistaken lol .

I don't know anything about the Hartford suit. But just this week I got a check in the mail for $255.01 for a windshield I had replaced in my 2003 Honda Element. It was bad glass, lots of problems that were obvious if you followed the enthusiast websites. Had Honda done a recall like they should have, it would have been a lot cheaper. This way, they refund my my $255.01 (along with everyone else who sends in their receipt) AND get to pay the lawyers! Yep. Class actions suits usually benefit only the attorneys, and to some degree, believe it or not, the company. Most folks will not opt out, so whatever measley settlement comes along is all they'll ever get -- insulates the company from a lot of individual suits.

It ended on January 27th. Free products given out at Dillard's, Macy's and Neiman-Marcus (back home we called it "Needless Markups" - I worked a block from the flagship store downtown Dallas~) You were handed whatever they gave out. You couldn't pick and choose.

@Jane. Pay Attention to what store you're purchasing from. Costco WILL take anything back, at any time for any reason. Target can do the exact same thing, at the manager's discretion. I do know Home Depot is REALLY relaxed in their Appliance Return Policies but... I don't think Lowe's is. Also... Keep in mind, Some Credit Cards like Visa Signature, Mastercard World, or American Express Centurion/Platinum/Gold also offer extended warranties and return protection, so it pays to look through, or call. They can really help you if something goes amiss. *I know someone... who ordered flooring from Lumber Liquidators. The flooring delivered and installed was drastically different, and they ended up deciding they didn't want it. LL wouldn't even consider the possibility of a return, or partial discount. So... guess what happened? They filed a Dispute with American Express... and American Express processed a FULL refund to their card, no questions asked. They didn't even have to supply documentation, or return the flooring. Just wonderful customer service.

I would likely keep the peninsula because I have loved my U shaped kitchens, but put it at regular table height with a deeper overhang than standard counters. That will allow you a place to eat or work while seated which may be useful as you age, but allow for some under counter storage, important in a small space such as this. I have yet to experience a comfortable regular height counter seating area due to my short legs and the stools being built for larger folks, and have at times resorted to eating standing instead, so I am biased. It sounds like your main dining area can be outdoors. I second the suggestion to be sure that the bathroom as well as width of hallways and doorways are accessible for wheelchair and walker accessiblity as that may allow you to remain in your home for longer. I might do some tweaking to get rid of the hallway to make access easier, and perhaps change the bathroom entry to the end of the kitchen. As someone who has watched two sets of relatives unable to remain at home due to insufficient accessibility as well as now being confronted with an illness that puts us in a similar position, you won’t regret making everything accessible. Also consider the indoor to outdoor transitions and how easily they can be managed with mobility issues.

Class action lawsuit. The lawyers get rich and you'll end up with about $1. Then more engine makers move production overseas to offset the cost. All over 2 or 3 tenths of a horsepower rating that no one will ever feel. A shame.

Just dropped in to advise that this does appear to be legit as it has now appeared on television. It appears to be more than one CA with various potential out-of-court settlements pending. Up to $35.00 for a walk behind, up to $75.00 on riders and depending on the engine/manufacturer a year's engine warranty.

Yes CAs are attorney money makers, but for me I plan to focus on the extension. It's to my benefit.

I never thought the HP ratings being stated as a max rather than at actual operating RPM was a big deal. You still get a basis for comparison, in that you know that an engine rated at 7.0HP (at 3600 RPM) is more powerful than one rated at 6.0 HP (at 3600 RPM). What difference does it make what they're actually putting out at 3000 RPM? One is going to be more powerful than the other, and all engine makers are going to be pretty close anyway because of competition. Why don't auto consumers have a similar suit because the rated HP of car engines is far above what the engine is putting out at highway speed? Its just that ridiculous - basically a bunch of idiots that can't figure anything out for themselves. Like it makes any difference when cutting grass that you don't know exactly what HP the engine is putting out. It should be sufficient to know the max HP of the engine. Yes, its for real, and I plan to apply for whatever I can get out of it. Might be enough for a box of cigars.

Actually, the suit says they were putting different HP Ratings on identical engines and pricing them accordingly. That is false advertising.
