Unlurking with my very first totem!!

I have lurked for about 6 months and have been absorbing all your great ideas. I Found this set of 4 red candlesticks marked down from $45 to $4 dollars at ULTA and have been waiting for just the right plates to finish it! Mom found these great blue, almost cobalt, for $2 dollars for a set of 8!!!

So, here is my first totem for only 6 dollars and the silicone.

I didn't like how the silicone showed between the plates I glued together so added flat marble trim. (thanks Mom!)

The top was hard to photograph but the insides of the candlesticks are shiny silver glass like the inside of a glass thermos and I put the top one upside down so when you look in the center of the plate it looks like the inside of a fancy silver goblet.

I should probably have waited to post til I got it in the garden but was too excited to wait for it to dry!! Off to make some flowers now!

That is beautiful. There will be a whole lot of jealous blue lovers here when they see the plates were $2. I love blue in the garden too, but never find any. I guess it will keep me looking.

Good work!The blue totem is awesome. Isn't this the best site ever? I haven't been here very long either,and you are already better at the pics than me. Thank you for the comments. :) Here's the yellow one. Not quite finished - it needs a topper. I'll look for that this weekend. My neighbor's pool got in the picture, but I like the way the glass compliments her yellow flowers. Here are the two together in my under-construction butterly garden. Got 3 buddleias in there so far.

WOW !!!!!! Those are your first ??????? You are an instant professional !!! LOL They are soooo nice ! ****** Can I offer some friendly suggestions ? You definately have " the eye " & the talent ! I learned these tips the hard way ..... when you have plates that are concave - the rain water will collect in them and form pools . Mine looked awful ... & .... I'm not sure what it does to the adhesive. I kept having to tip them over to dump out the dirty water. I also learned to make mine with glass pieces that are bigger on the bottom and get smaller on the way up . This way it won't be top heavy and the adhesive will hold better . I hope these tips helped - believe me - I could write the book on "What not to do" .... LOL ******* Something tells me you are getting addicted ! LOL ****

Very pretty just the way it is. Are those cobras on the candleholder? I like the way you repeated patterned shapes with the vase and candleholder in terms of the ridges at the bases and then contrasting round and straight shapes. The plates, tea cup and candleholder all match well together. I think if you put it outside amongst some flowers, the clear base will kind of blend in and not make it overpowering. Overall, a great first totem! (And this coming from the woman who hasn't put hers together yet!)

Oh my! I'm glad you didn't wait to post the pictures. That's one of the prettiest totems I've seen. I especially love the red and blue together.

Welcome to Garden Junk. Now that you've come out of lurkdom (is that a word?) you need to show us more of your creations.

GORGEOUS, and what a great way to introduce yourself. Welcome out of Lurkdom. I am going to grab your photo for our Totem album, its definitely a keeper. I can't wait to see what you do next. I love the idea of how you glued plates together, that never would have occurred to me!

What a beautiful piece! The blue & red pieces look good together. I really like the shape with that little bit of whimsy from the marbles in the middle.

Welcome to the forum DannaB, sure glad you came out of lurkdom to join in on the fun. Your totem is supurb!!! I love the colors and the shape. It's going to look so beautiful in your gardens. Yeah that silicone can look messy but you covered it up great. Hope to see more of your garden creations, we love pics around here.
