My first totem etc..

I sneaked in to take a peek at what Garden Junk was all about, and I was captured and sucked in!! I am now hooked on this new found treasure that I didn't even know existed- Garden Junk!! You guys are very talented an inspirational- thank you for the knowledge and lessons. Here are my first projects I learned to do..

totem, teacup birdfeeders, tea light holders, plate flowers, and the cute little crystal hummingbird I found to put on top of my totem..

Thank guys..I've entered the point of no return!!

Thanks for the nice complements. I also love the black and white ones. I'll go so far as to admit that the biggest motivation for me to buy new dishes was the ability to use these black and white dishes for plate flowers. Well, also the fact that the biggest plates don't fit in my dishwasher. I made 4 with the orange middle plates. I'm on the look out for more yellow or orange or red that size so I can use up the rest of my service. Thanks for the input on the totem. Ravencajun - thanks for the detailed info about sealing the glass (maybe I should have asked for advice before I glued it together?). I have a metal outdoor candle holder that I'm going to cement into the ground, and I have a clear glass jar that will be attached to the bottom of the totem that slides perfectly into the candle holder. So the totem will be out in the whimsy garden, elevated about 2-3 feet. I will add a second layer of glue to the top and middle layer to make sure they are fully sealed.

I bet that will be a sparkler out in the garden! Love the cherub on top with his "mushroom." Great innovative idea for odd pieces like that. Wonderful job! I can't wait to see your next totem (because I know it's coming ... lol).

WOW !!!!!! Those are your first ??????? You are an instant professional !!! LOL They are soooo nice ! ****** Can I offer some friendly suggestions ? You definately have " the eye " & the talent ! I learned these tips the hard way ..... when you have plates that are concave - the rain water will collect in them and form pools . Mine looked awful ... & .... I'm not sure what it does to the adhesive. I kept having to tip them over to dump out the dirty water. I also learned to make mine with glass pieces that are bigger on the bottom and get smaller on the way up . This way it won't be top heavy and the adhesive will hold better . I hope these tips helped - believe me - I could write the book on "What not to do" .... LOL ******* Something tells me you are getting addicted ! LOL ****

Awwwww, thanks guys!! It was so much fun putting it together (I just hope it stays that way ! LOL) Garden2garden, my hubby said I should put the other one on top with it being deeper but the one I did use for the top is such a beautiful plate. I just wish I could've used something else as the base as I would've preffered to use that bottom one as a top for another project but it's all so heavy it really needed a heavy sturdy base. I also thought about a bird or two, I'm on the look out for some glass ones and I'll attach one or two later. Desertrat, I used 6 pieces, 2 large plates, 2 tall vases, a round vase and a small plate (upside down under the round vase) I think all up they cost about $12 - $14, I picked them all up from garage sales. Thanks for the tips on photo uploading, I'll give it a try now so I can show you this from another angle. (((hugs))) Tracey

Welcome ttennis!!! Great to have another junker get sucked in....I mean join our group! ;-) You are a quick study and all of your creations are just great!! Love your bird feeders and your totems!!! And plate flowers are just too cool! Keep up the good work!

Welcome Aboard!!! You will realize this is such a fun group!!! I've been coming here for 9yrs? And am still making totems and such!!! You'd think my yard would have enough by now..but Oh No1!! Plus I make gifts too!!! Here are some Totems I just made...the angel one is just a repair job...

Good work!The blue totem is awesome. Isn't this the best site ever? I haven't been here very long either,and you are already better at the pics than me. Your right it is addicting, in one month I've made 14 totems, 3 bottle bugs, and a plate flower and my lunches are consumed with searching thrift stores. Look foward to more pics.

Oh, you "done" good gal!!! All your creations are very nice! Glad you've joined our little group, it's a lot of fun but very addicting. You might be stuck with this new hobby for a long time! LOL

I wasn't going to get into making bird feeders but those 1st 2 are just so cute, I love the wavy plates, really adds to them.& if I used vases could find a place to put a couple!! Welcome aboard!! Lovely blue totem! You have learned a lot from GJERS! JAN
