Just want to share my lawn update :)

Just want to share how my lawn looks like as of May 7, 2008 12:30PM Central. :P I still have dead blades underneath but they're slowly being eaten away by the microbes. Hopefully, once I apply my compost tea, the microbes will devour the remaing dead blades.

I was a bit nervous because last year around late April, it was already green. My lawn had a late green up this year. Well, it's nature. We had too much snow this year.

I'm glad that it's looking well. Oh, I found 5 dandelions in different areas of my lawn but they were all found at the border, 1" just after the concrete and nothing in the middle yet. If you look at the second picture, dandelions have already come up. I'm hoping that seeds won't fly to my lawn.

By the way, the dandelions that I've seen few weeks ago within 1 mile radius from my house are so bad. How is it in your area?

I'm looking at the topsoil at the house across the street and I'm really jealous! I am from Milwaukee and every time I visit I get all excited about the nice, black, rich topsoil there. Plus Kentucky Bluegrass looks so nice up there in the summer. My soil here in southern PA sucks. When I fly to Milwaukee, I always notice from the plane that turfed areas in the Baltimore/DC area are so much lighter green than the dark bluegrass lawns in the Mid-west. Lookin' good v1rtu0s1ty!!

I would be interested in San Marzano tomato seeds and lemon cucumber seeds. I have Old Kentucky tomato - an orange, beefsteak style tomato. I like the flavor of these and they grew very well this year. I have red Oxheart tomato - these are fleshy (meaty?) and did pretty well. Took a bit longer to mature. I also have some California Wonder pepper seeds. I cannot tell you about these particular ones because someone near and dear to me forgot to water my seedlings while I was on vacation and those all died this year. But, I have seeds from 2013. If you have any interest in these, I'd love to trade with you. -Matt

You know, I think it was Nil who convinced me to add more pumice/perlite to my Aloe sowing mix. Seeing his results in pure pumice gave me confidence to use a lot more grit in the mix and I've been very happy with that. I can't manage pure pumice or even too gritty of a mix because I like to be able to take a day off sometimes or forget about watering a pot for a few days. I think it's all about finding the balance that works for your conditions/practices. About the "x"... I only put it in quotations to separate it from my sentence. It can just be an x.... (Aloe 'Fang' x). If you knew the other parent, you could add that name after the x. Yes, you should use the x when talking about them. Specifically the x means "crossed with", if you were going to say it out loud. Yes, you should probably do a liquid fert. I don't think the green balls are doing much for you. To get the most bang for my buck, I use a straight 20-20-20 water soluble fert in a 10% dilution. That means I only use 10% of the recommended ratio, making my fert 2-2-2. I have mine mixed up in a spray bottle at 4x strength so that all I have to do is squirt a little into each watering can. 4 squirts = 10%, 5 squirts = 12.5%, 6 squirts = 15%... (all very specific to my equipment) It took some careful math to set it up but I wrote down my formula and now it's very easy. Alright, good luck! PS, my name is Ryan but that's leaked information:)

Yeah, Ron. Lawns were barely green, but the dandelions were abundant around here. So are the violets, henbit, and creeping charlie.

You're looking great there!

I have not seen any PM yet and that's what is scaring me. :D

Probably. The patch I had and was complaining about is shrinking fast, and I haven't done a thing to it. The maturing grass seems to be outcompeting it very nicely.
