YS finds/need ideas

Here are the finds from our camping trip/120 mile YS last weekend, we actually only made it about 40 miles. My glass wear averaged about 50 cents each, some were actually free. I love my big finds.I need ideas for the big nature lady lamp.Also, I want to make a pink BB, any ideas how to trans form these two? I was planning on painting the jumping horse to look like a carousel horse, but saw a mosiac one on that forum that is awesome, now I don,t know. I haven't done any mosiac projects yet. Lots of great stuff here!! You are going to be busy. As for the horse I think it is on "Crafts & Decorations" forum where someone did beautiful redos of those horses. I'll see if I can find it.1 was black & 2nd another color, not sure if she had mosaic or not. Love the little colored plates,great for plate flowers!!Jan

Wonderful finds! I'd love to see dh's bird houses as well as what you make. Here is a link from trash to treasure of carousel horses. My favorite one is further down in the thread, tho I love the zebra too! If you do a search for carousel horse there on t to t, you'll probably find more.

I own a Craftsman LT3000 with a six-speed manual transmission. I've used this machine on one acre since the end of last summer without trouble. Here's the review I wrote last year... http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tractor/msg081107371197.html The one cylinder Briggs Intek Plus engine starts and runs easily. There's plenty of torque even at low RPM. It has no trouble pulling a cart full of soil or stones. The manual transmission is strong, you'll spin the wheels before slipping a belt. As mentioned before, you choose the gear you need with your foot on the brake or stopped. Shifting while moving will shorten the life of the manual transmission. Here's a quick "how to" for the gears... - Lower gears are for pulling a heavy load or mowing very heavy grass. - The middle gears are best for most mowing or pulling moderate loads. - High gears are for when you are merely driving it or pulling an empty cart. - it's best to ease off the brake/clutch at low engine RPM. This keeps you from taking off too quickly. There's no need to rev the engine if you're just driving. It goes fast enough in sixth gear at low throttle to get you where you want to go. You can even pull a decent load at low throttle. However, mowing demands high engine RPMs. Otherwise, you will bog or stall the engine. Your cut will stink, to boot. The good and the bad... GOOD: Strong engine. Strong transmission Strong frame Good on gas Tight steering Metal hood Nice cut quality Oil, air, and fuel filters easy to service Optional bagger works well BAD: LOUD engine at high RPM Dim headlights at low engine RPM Brake is a long reach for short people Seat switch cutout too sensitive for short people Optional canopy is junk I highly recommend the 12.5 cubic foot polycarbonite dump cart. It's strong and won't dent or rust. I've put 800 pounds of field stone in mine without damage. The metal cart is less expensive, yet has sharp corners that can pull clothing or cut skin. It has also a lot more metal to dent or rust. I use a leaf blower to clean my lawn tractor. Peace. Marco

Does the free wheeling (bypass) valve operate smoothly in & out when you perform the purge, or if you are doing it to roll the tractor by hand? If the bypass valve does not move freely, and "click" into its proper detent positions.......it could be still bypassing a small volume of oil. As to "worn gears" being the source of noise AND ALSO being related to poor performance: Highly unlikely. The gears in this unit are the few that are required for just ONE reduction ratio between the drive motor and the differential section of the unit, and the differential gears themselves. The final reduction gearing would only be noisy during periods where the tractor ground speed was pretty fast and the pitch of the noise would change with any increase or decrease of ground speed. The differential gears themselves DO NOT have any relative motion to each other EXCEPT when executing corners (turning tractor to left or right) or when one wheel is spinning due to a loss of traction. At all other times the differential gears may as well be welded together as they remain stationary relative to each other. I suggest you might want to completely disassemble all the brake and friction pack parts for inspection, cleaning and lubing (where needed). Because Hydro Gear does list brake adjustment disorder as a possible cause of noise and poor performance, I am inclined to think that there may still be something about that friction pack and the brake caliper/pucks that may be at the root of the problem. If you put the trans into free wheel mode, are you able to roll the tractor at all by hand? If not....that may be confirmation of a dragging brake. If you undertake the disassembly of the brake and friction pack, be sure you take plenty of photos as you take it apart so you will know without question where each part came from and how it was oriented. Don't rely on the other manuals for that, they can sometimes be vague, but your own photos will be clear.

punk...well, you don't have to twist my arm about YS'ing or GS'ing either! My car doesn't have a bit of trouble stopping at those yard signs! The big church one we went to last Fri., I limited myself but scored!...candlestick (which I know now I can't force myself to paint white! It's solid walnut)...so will use as is! LOL! Let's see...got sugar & creamer(Metlox) with green ivy on it, brass little mouse with curved tail in the air (he called to me), box of used craft paints & glitters, 3 hardcover pic books, box of photo cards, 3 ft. turned wood column ($4, believe it or not!)...ahhhh, I could go on & on! I'm in the garden mode,too, right now & lovin' it! But I'll be using some of this good "stuff" yet on this forum! So don't forget to pick me up on that bus! I'll share! LOL! Jeanne S.

Thanks Kathy, it wasn't on crafts forum but "trash to treasure" & I was just going to post this 1 that you did. There is another 1 where poster had 2 horses that were really beautiful like new carousel horses but I can't find that one. "justlinda" did the 2 on the above post so she probably did the others also. I went over to paining & Tole forum but no luck there either, I think it is on Trash of Treasure but she didn't mention horses in title- I think they were done shortly before or after the zebra post. OMG ------- I have to wipe the drool from my chin ! You got awesome stuff !!!!!!! I would mosaic that rocking horse in a heartbeat -- then I would take the lights off that chandelier and replace them with cups & saucers ...then I would box the whole lot of it up - and send it to me .....

Wow! What a haul! Love all the great glass and the lady lamp is pretty cool! I'm not sure what I would do with her, but she seems like she'd be a cool bird bath bottom or fountain of some sort! And the lamp would be great with cups/saucers or birdhouses or whatever! Looks like you had a great time!!!

I just had some one offer me a statue and I turned it down not knowing what to do with it. You folks have great ideas. I'd better call and see if she still has it!! TFS

Wonderful finds!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the horse. DH has now bot me 2 and I have no idea what to do with them. One needs repair and I'm expecting DH to do that when he gets time. I'm thinking decoupage for mine - saw a nice one somewhere but not sure if I saved the pic.

I'm also planning to decoupage my bowling balls, it's way easier for me than mosaic and some people here or on T2T have posted some really nice ones.

I love the lady lamp and would probably use it as a lamp! LOL how creative of me! ;-)

The blue and white bowl is interesting - does it have a maker's mark on the bottom?

Great idea for the wood bowls, I've passed many by as I never knew what to do with them. Might have to buy some for my birdhouses.

I think you may have given me better ideas than I've given you! TFS
