Look what I got for free

The town where I live has a 10 block flea market one day each July. Because I'm on a 'no-purchase-unless-needed' kick I didn't go until 30 minutes before it was over. By then some vendors were selling stuff REALLY cheap and others were giving some of their wares away. I got everything except the frogs and the marbles free. The frogs were .50 and the marbles were 5 for 2.00. I bought 10, then went back as the vendor was packing up. He let me have 6 for 1.00. They're large marbles...just what I've been needing for some of my garden art. I got 8 of the white saucers. They make good spacers for some of the totems. I picked up a wonderful large taco holder (free)that looked like a huge flower, then laid it on a table while I was looking at other free stuff. A friend was yelling, as she was dragging merchandise into her shop, that she needed to talk to me. I walked over to talk to her, forgetting that the taco dish was on the table. When I got back it was gone. Someone else snatched it up. What a bummer. I was SO disappointed!

....when I looked in the right place! Here it is... "The structure and pollination of the flowers are rather interesting. The hard, beak-like sheath from which the flower emerges, is called the spathe. This is placed at right angles to the stem, which gives it the appearance of a bird's head. The flowers, which emerge one at a time from the spathe, consist of 3 brilliant orange sepals and 3 bright blue petals. Two of the blue petals are joined together to form an arrow-like nectary. When the birds sit to have a drink of nectar, the petals open to cover their feet in pollen". So, it definately looks like more than one flower can come from each flower bud...great news! Gill.

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! Congratulations Lauri, hope you had a super day? Neat little greenhouse unit you have there, I hope your plumies get off to a good start in it. The cutting you bought was a bargain, hope it roots now as it has a super little pace to grow in. My Celadine is looking good and healthy with several little 'green claws' at it's tip, a sure promise of things to come.....I hope! Meanwhile, our new-super-sturdy-non-blowing-away-greenhouse is progressing slowly as we only have the weekends to work in the daylight outside, it goes dark around 6pm so not much time to work outside yet after work/tea. We have spent hours sawing, planeing, staining, glueing and bolting sections together in the garages, now the frames are outside and in position on the walls....its looking good, so watch this space!... I can't wait to get it glazed and up and running! I am so looking forward to sowing those plumie seeds you sent me Lauri. Enjoy your greenhouse, best wishes, Gill. 8Â¬)

Hey, nice scrounging! I really like the green Monrovia pots, they look more decorative than the black ones. My niece works at a garden center, and lets me know when they have discards. They used to have more, especially large ones in the spring when people would return them after planting trees. But now the garden center is starting to recycle the better ones themselves, so less for me.

Oh my god Netla I am so jealous!!! They used to sell Le Creuset pans like that in this country and my mom had one. I am guessing it was 13 inches across and we used it for everything. My dad got rid of it a few years ago without asking if I wanted it first. (mom died 25 years ago) I have looked and looked on E-bay and I cannot find one. If shipping would not be prohibitive I would send you the money to get me one. I bet shipping would be more then the pan. Although my moms was the white enamel on the inside. Enjoy it!! Those pans are awesome. As for the color, why don't you paint the kitchen white as a temporary step. With the deep red gone you may have an easier deciding what color you want. I had a similar problem in a former house. -Robin
