Crimson Topaz, DR with depth

I always enjoy walking through my nursery this time of year to sometimes test an apple I've not tasted before and I just finished sampling my first Crimson Topaz and the flavor was outstanding- a real nice sugar-acid balance, juicy with good firm texture (most new varieties are firm fleshed).

Adam's only mentions strong scab and moderate mildew resistance but this apple is plenty good enough to grow for flavor alone. It tastes a lot like Jonathan but those are more watery from all the rain this year- Topaz had all the brix needed.

This is a far cry from a valid evaluation but tree was in a crowded situation that didn't allow it to get adequate sun for best fruit and flavor didn't suffer. There was an Enterprise nearby whose apples were not nearly so tasty- very bland in comparison.
