Oh great, a junk forum

Just when I thought I had gotten over my junk collecting addiction, I had to come here.

Now I'm scouting the yard sales, thrift stores and curbsides again. After all, inside my house I might have enough stuff, but I didn't even THINK about the outside.

Thanks to YOU all I have painted 3 pots, made a toad house and am working on an old lantern. I keep burning my darn dinners since I'm in such a rush to get back outside and work on everything. Now I'm eying the strawberry pot trying to figure out if I should paint it cream or green.

Sigh.

Well, the positive side of all this is that I washed my front foyer today. I figure if I am going to put out my nice newly painted pots, I may as well clean up a little first:-)

This is addicting! But a lot of fun! Buy cheap stuff or curb shop and make it into something -What could be better!

LOL too funny! Dinner.......uhhhh,I guess I forget to make dinner a lot of the time,but I figure somebody can order pizza as well as I can:) Or make a sandwich! I grew vegetables,how about a salad? LOL The upside to my addiction is I'm keeping my front porch nice and clean,too,ya just don't wanna see what a golden retriever can do inside when you don't vacuum!

Thanks guys! I knew you all would appreciate all of the finds! NMgirl did some research on my weird metal pieces and has discovered that they are decorative stirrups! How about that?! Oh, and the purple glass globe isn't actually one of my finds from Saturday...it is one of three that go on the old lightening rods from my parent's house...I brought it inside when the rod fell over in one of our wind storms so it wouldn't get broken. I've done a better job of securing them to the ground so they won't blow over again, but I'm waiting for the freezing weather to pass to put the globe back on. Thanks again for sharing my fun!

I tried Google & at bottom of 1st 10 there(Recycled decor-Etsy lady) was 1 similar to 1 in B&B it's a bowl but you can see how it is shaped, for a flower plate it would be little flatter & the center would be a second record. Another site said she used acrylic paints, I would use patio paints. You would certainly want to have windows & doors open as sure there are bad chemicals in records you don't want to breathe. As the article I mentioned above said you only leave in not more than 2 min at lowest temp in your oven(do this when kids are gone or in another part of house.) This Recycled decor is actually a lady on Etsy & it is item 5 of the 19 she has. How she got the lines so perfectly on the record bowls I can't even imagine! & look at the prices! WOW! Jan

I've been busy in my greenhouse and garden ever since I posted last. One of those days from 8AM to 7PM was spent moving a cute old shed into my garden, and one was moving two kousa dogwoods that I had planted "temporarily" in my veg garden 3-4 years ago! ARRRGH!! Never again! AnnPat- Sorry you didn't have better luck at Fedco. I got there around 8:50 and they had already opened! We rushed in to try to get the bluberries and raspberries I wanted, but the varieties I wanted were gone. However, we were happy that lilacs and buddleias were 2 for one! I took my husband with me for the first time. He kept saying "look, this is a great deal, we should get some of these!" So I came home with more than I usually do. We got four regular lilacs (2 James MacFarlane, which I have been wanting to stretch out my season, a Japanese tree lilac, 2 Donald Wyman crabapples, and 2 buddleias. I also got more Fort-V potting soil, which I love but cannot get anywhere else except Johnny's, some bean seeds which were recommended to me recently and some other incidentals. I'll pre-order the bushes I really need next year. huisjen-Kudos to you for working to get a school garden going. Have you looked into the Master Apprentice Gardener program thru the extension service? It is aimed at the 3 & 4th graders and is an excellent place to start. Paulaj-looks like you may be the closest to me. I can't find my GMSII book, drat! It isn't Muriel Kragar's is it? I heard she moved. Back outside I go. What a day yesterday, eh?

welcome jackie. had it not been for this forum, i would never have been successful at baking bread. have you seen any of the food pix? there are many on the forum that post their pix, but then there are the cream of the crop food photogs that blow me away with not only what they prep, but their pix. and there's sharon who lives in heaven on earth. this is a wonderful group of people - generous beyond words in their thoughts, actions and deeds. you'll love it here, i know i do. maryanne

Welcome! Yes, I've been known to let the chores go too when I'm working on something. Thank goodness I have an understanding family who tolerates my obsession!

Hello Rebecca & everybody else on the junk forum. Rebecca, I have 2 strawberry pots sitting out beside my porch empty and
lonely and now, since reading your post I am overcome with the
urge to paint them. Brilliant idea!!! So is there any special
paint or technique for outdoor projects that I should use??
I love the old, distressed look, any suggestions?? BTW, I love this forum too.

LOL, Rebecca, I sure understand. I'd tossed out a lot of stuff when we moved to a different house three years ago and was so proud of myself for paring down. Now I'm kicking myself for what I let go and buying far more than I ever dreamed of using. The ideas on this place are just mind-boggling. Have fun.
