Finally, a great junking day!!

My DH and I went out junking yesterday to a place about 45 minutes from where we live and boy, did we have a great time! This place verges on being scary, but it has such great junk, you forget about that! Got lots of treasures for totems, birdhouses, etc. I hope you enjoy sharing the thrill!

Marlene I just LOVE that purple glass globe! And the dragon candleholder. Love it! I like your other metal pieces too. The ones your daughter found, seems like they are familiar but I can't place them. They sure are pretty though. :) Donna

Wow, what great finds. I would love to have some of that fringe. In the first pick the fringe looks pink and white and in the second pic it looks green and red. Are they two different kinds of fringe? How do we get ahold of you for the fringe? I don't see an email address for you when I click on your "My Page." I thought hose reel too and then the more I looked at it, it seemed like the reel was too big, not enough room for the hose. And the crank doesn't look strong enough for a hose, but it's hard to tell without seeing it for real. It's a reel for something anyway- which brings me to my second idea-I just thought of this while writing all those reals and reels, lol, Kind of looks like a giant fishing reel! OR my first idea was (when you said you would have to store it for 6 months) if you hung it in a vertical position (with the crank on top) maybe paint it white (or whatever theme you like) and string it with mini lights, it could be done up like a little carosel with glittery horses (or reindeer!) attached to the bars and red and white ribbons or candy canes or green garlands hanging in it. OR also hanging vertical, leave it black, it could be made like a lantern-wrap it with celophane and put a light inside it and some greens and pine cones around it for Christmas. About nailing it to a tree, I don't know. I always hesitate to, too, but then I have seen things that were nailed to trees a long time ago that turned out ok. I guess a lot would depend on how heavy it is, how big a nail you'd have to use, how big the tree is.

Checking in - have been unpacking stuff that has been waiting for the bedroom closet. With the additional shelves on the sides they are now my linen closet replacement (don't have one in this house) so I'm pretty pleased with this. Now I can move our hanging clothing still in the trailer through the wash and finally home. Happy Happy! And as the boxes leave here, the space is evolving. More items are finding where they belong or don't. I watched another episode of Hoarders today - I know we are all on the right track. I understand the psychology on how things can get out of control when life wallops you, I understand how good it feels when you regain control again instead of letting items take over. We are all different. Our belongings mean different things to each and everyone of us. I want to cherish what brings me joy, memories, are of practical use. Sometimes things change along with their value. Life changes. I want to change with it down the path where I can step freely. Tonight will should be a better sleep not seeing items pushed against the wall because they had no home. Our bathroom feels like heaven when taking a shower because there is room enough not to knock things down, stub my toe. Our kitchen will continue to be a work in progress until we get those cupboards but at least I can choose to have organized storage until then...and hopefully we can both keep it that way. Instead of walking around something that should be put away, I'm going to start picking more up every day. That job is becoming so much less hassle as my space has definition. Clutter brings clutter. Space brings peace. Next week I think will be a great week to clean the windows again to enjoy the sunny days when they arrive. See the snow sparkle at night when it falls. It all starts with one box, one bag, one item. We are doing this. We are empowered. Please share your week with us, ups and downs. Are you feeling better now? When you get some of your junk finished we love to see it on Garden Junk Forum" They are usually busier than here tho lot of them are planting gardens for later canning., right now. We love all things recycled!! Sounds like you got a great haul!

All such pretty things but I LOVE that dragon candle holder! The bug boot jacks (or whatever they are called) are pretty cool too.

OMgosh, I am droolin', girl! Love all the metal pcs...thinkin' bdhses, bdhses, bdhses!!! And that dragon candleholder...so original! Boy, you should be in heaven for glass totem projects!!! Glad you had a great day and shared it with us GJers! I'd sure venture into that "scary" place! Jeanne S.

WHAT A HAUL! You gotta take us to that scary place the next time you go!!! Those are the kind of places where you find the BEST things! I love the metal pieces! Are you going to make a totem with the green glass? Love the glass pieces as well! The little squirrel candle holder is like the one Jeanne sent us for Christmas in the SS Exchange. We have it in the window and it sparkles!!! Love your finds!

We went to our little, small town, thrift store yesterday (where proceeds help the needy in our community). I found a couple of brass dishes there. They were having a half off sale! Benjamin wanted to bring home a vacuum cleaner! LOL He cried when we pulled him away from it to leave! Carol, my neatnick, has trained him well!

Marlene, I love your treasures! Let us know what you do with everything! AND...let us know when you find out what those metal pieces are! I did a search for "antique lamp parts". Some things came up that were similar looking but not the same. ENJOY YOUR FINDS! Bear Hugs! Kirk

hi the green glasses that you have there are, "sandwich forest green glasses" people got them in boxes of oatmeal in the late 1940's and 1950's..there worth about $8 each..and those things that look like big bugs are boot/shoe pullers you use them to pull your shoes off I've seen them in antique stores not sure of there value..

What a haul. Of course that PURPLE globe grabbed me right away. sighing with envy, LOL.

Kirk, I can't believe the little guy wanted a vacuum..that's hysterical. Tho my now 10 yr old GS was same way at that age. He loved cleaning and would vacuum under beds even. LOL.

Nice haul! Love the purple globe & green glass. Do those plates with floral design have a mark on back? They look like Hall I think! Lots of color to work with & I love the iron & metal things too! Jan

Thanks guys! I knew you all would appreciate all of the finds! NMgirl did some research on my weird metal pieces and has discovered that they are decorative stirrups! How about that?! Oh, and the purple glass globe isn't actually one of my finds from Saturday...it is one of three that go on the old lightening rods from my parent's house...I brought it inside when the rod fell over in one of our wind storms so it wouldn't get broken. I've done a better job of securing them to the ground so they won't blow over again, but I'm waiting for the freezing weather to pass to put the globe back on. Thanks again for sharing my fun!

Great collection! I'm in GJ shopping envy. I've had to curtail myself lately due to finance.
Love those flower plates and the yellow dish with petals or a womans lace collar!

The blue "thing" is actually the glass tail of a Avon peacock perfume bottle!

Lots of great finds! I love the grasshopper boot-removers. You could even spray paint those silver or something fun (or leave them as is) and they'd look so cute in a flower bed!

Marlene, you hit the mother lode! Jackpot! Droolin' here! I especially love the green tumblers and the serpent candle holder, all the other pieces are great too! BTW some of my favorite flea markets have their scary elements too, found many of my jadeite pieces at one 50 miles from here up on the mountain ... just git in there and go for it yeehaw LOL ~tenderlee
