Curb shopping find

On my way to work, I spied this on the curb, the wheels started spinning and the brain started churning. I pulled over and backed up post haste, despite being a bit late. It is about 4 feet tall and top is flat once hardware removed. My son (who is out of the closet now too) thinks it should have a large fern type plant in a pot, I am seeing a large globe type thing, depending on TS inventory, with a candle in it. Any ideas/inspirations from you guys?

Wow!! That has alot of possibilities.... Can't wait to see what you do.
And how brave you are... I am known as a chicken.. too afraid to stop. I need an enabler!! LOL!!! aka get away driver!!!

It would make a good base for a candle,gazing ball,or birdbath.Can't wait to see what you make.

Alrighty Then... and Merry Christmas to whoever might be at work and have nothing of importance to do... talk about PAYDIRT... geez... ya'll have found some really cool stuff. Nothing I like better than to find a discarded window box... mine is not to wonder why..I just snag and go...LOLOL.. I was having coffee with my neighbor 2 days ago and her hubby was hanging a ceiling fan in the bedroom. He comes out and says... 'Do you want these? I hate to toss em out. They are dated back to the very early 1920's'... so I slowly looked up and...'OMG... he had two glass shades that hang from chains that attach to a ceiling fixture. They are etched and frosted and gorgeous... I jumped out of my chair and said 'Thank you very much and you can't have them back'... he laughed... so, this morning they got wrapped as gifts for my S/O and will be happily turned into gorgeous bird feeders come the spring... but that's not the best part of it all.. My boss walks in yesterday morning and in her hand is a picture of a 1920 Jacob Doll Upright piano that she has been trying to sell... I looked once...then looked again because the price had changed to 'FREE TO LOVING HOME'.. LOLOLOLOL... Merry Christmas to Me!!!! It's being moved next week. How 'bout that? Merry Christmas...Jim

Sounds great! I love old painted finishes. I was eyeing up a stool at a flea market yesterday that had about 6 layers of paint on it. The result was a marbling effect in green and robin's egg blue with a little rust for good measure. Call me crazy but I thought it was a work of art. lol! If I had felt like carrying it back to the car (which was a few blocks away) I would have bought it. But free is even better! Glad you had some success this weekend!

WOW, those are really neat mushrooms. I have a plan in back of mind for making a giant one too, just have to get the back to co-operate for me to mix up a batch of Quikrete. But I hadn't even thought of mosaicing it, hmmmm. Good Job! Karen

Jan you have been busy !! I think it will have to be Sunbrella fabric though. Will post the pics of the glider when it is stripped , next week, and then we gotta pick the body color...will have to wait on cushions I bet as money is going to get tight soon...one more trip to NYC at the end of July for me and DH...we gotta get a cheaper hobby :) just: I think it would be beautiful. The dark green we used is from BM and I am very happy with it. It is on the fences in the pergola thread. It is hard to find almost black greens. The spray paint from Rustoleum...Charleston Green is very dark. I love it and used it on all my metal furniture in the Spring. Please post again to show what you do with it. c

I'm assuming it is a floor lamp? It looks too tall to be a table lamp. I would love to get my hands on that and mosaic it! Then make a matching mosaic BB to put on top. I can't wait to see what you do with it! Awesome find!

What an awesome find - you lucky gal you!!! Definitely a base for a BB or gazing ball. If you decide to paint it, get the new Krylon outdoor spray paints. They're great! I think it would be great with a fern on top too, but how would you attach a base for it to sit on. Is there an opening in the bottom where you could pound a long metal stake in the ground, like a piece of rebar or old pole from a camping tent and put the light base over it to protect it from falling over in the winds, etc.? Can't wait to see what you do with it, it's going to be so lovely in your gardens.

What a great find! Well, depending on what it's made out of, you could paint it--use it as a plant stand, gazing ball, bird bath...the possibilities are endless! Let us know what you decide and post a picture!

It would look really cool as a fountain. One of a kind. If the inside is hollow to allow for the cord of the lamp, then you could run a rubber hose up through to the top. I love the structure of the piece.

The decision is made. We are going to make it into a water feature, with bowling ball drilled..... for next spring after I put in a pond, thinking in the center of the pond would be perfect. Now, for more advice, the lamp is ceramic, any problem with sitting in water, should it be sealed? Also, any recommendations for stabilizing it?
You guys are awesome and a very creative and supportive bunch. For this year, probably will stabilize with rebar, place in garden and put a potted plant on top. Or the globe thing as soon as I find a globe.
