My Bramley apples are only the size of golf balls

I'm new to apples - but have planted a Charles Ross and a Bramley - both saplings about 6ft high. I was quite surprised to get any apples in the first year, but the bramly has produced about 40 golf ball sized apples - clearly not full sized offerings.

Is this just the relative youth of the tree- I planted the Charles Ross which has also fruited (3 apples - quite respectable for it's youth I felt) to cross fertilise, but I'm conscious that the Bramley is a triploid - is the small size of the apples down to the absence of a further source of fertilisation ???

Should I find a friend for my tree - or just let it mature a bit ? In adition, earlier in the year I got quite a few aphids on my tree which I sprayed with an aproved spray for apples, but the tree suffered from a bout of curled up leaves at around the same time - this seemed localised to just some new growth areas.

Please help an apple newbie
