New house with horrible lawn. Need lots of help!

I recently bought a house in Land O Lakes, Fl (just north of Tampa). Great house, especially for the price..however, it has a horrible lawn. I am not sure what type of grass it has. Looks like St Augustine, but some looks like Bahia. A lot of it is burnt and dead with a bunch of empty spots and weeds everywhere. I'm looking for tips/ideas of what I can do to bring it back to life.

I have attached a bunch of pics to help ID what I have.

I'm new to the homeowner thing, so I do not have any experience with lawn care (short of mowing lawns as a kid). I know certain weed killer can't be used on St Augustine grass, and the St Augustine safe stuff can't be used on other types. Since I'm not sure what type of grass I have anywhere, I'm leary on putting anything down to try and control the weeds that are there.

Any help is much appreciated.
