Was in Big Lots the first of this week. They had flamingos on summer clearence for $15.. Would like to wait for another markdown to get a pair.

Yeah, Jake and Elwood!!!! I bought those same black hats for some stuffed cat door props. They were at Michael's in the doll making isle. It was not this year though. Congratulations that you found a set.

Kat, hope you get some marked down. There is a Big Lots here, but I'm glad I didn't know about the flamingos. LOL.
Besides having to drive there and back with my bad right leg (Fibro pain), I'd have spent a LOT more because I'd have bought a lot more things!! This way I saved money and got the birds brought to the front door. LOL.

Toomuch, its more like a "Mission from SusieRose". I'd totally forgotten buy and paint flamingo pair was on my Too Long to Do list. Till she went and painted her's yellow and reminded me to look at the ones again in our GJ album.
So its all her fault, but I forgive her since she told me I maybe can find the hats at Michaels.

I had a friend who put flamingos out with crazy mardi gras beads on their necks. Talk about ready for the party!

I love flamingos! I used to have a whole collection of them tt I spray painted different colorsm purple,blue, green, etc.
I changed my garden theme to be a little more formal and gave them away at our garden swap. I really wish I had taken a picture, they were pretty cool.

Last year Target had small pink flamingoes for $2.50 each. I bought several for my 14 year old daughters birthday luau. Most went home with kids who were completely besotted with them. LOL. One mother said "You are NOT putting that thing in my yard!"

I'm soooo jealous! LOL Flamingoes have been on my "want" list for ages. I don't ebay or shop online - the shipping to this part of Canada would be unreal. Keep hoping to find some in a YS. It *could* happen. Might have to wait til our next trip south of the border.

Karen, are you planning to paint them purple?

I want to paint mine too, but I can't find them. Dh claims that he didn't get rid of them but I don't know...

I once bought a swag light on eBay for $10, and paid $20 shipping .... but it was the one I wanted, and I have no regrets. I can't go over to WallyWorld and find a vintage light .... that's what is great about eBay. I found most of my Jadeite & Laughlin china there too.

Perky, my old pink flamingo that I found in the antique mall last year, has some beads around her neck. I'm debating on painting her purple now. Why not, LOL. I painted my "Blue's Brothers" last night. Talk about frustrating! The seller had mentioned that there was some protective coating on them to keep them from ever fading in the sun. Well even tho I used Fusion for plastics, and it covered perfectly. The slightest thing will scratch it off.
And of course I bumped them on things a few times trying to repaint the eyes and glue the metal legs on so they'd stay in place. So had to keep doing touch ups. I am going to spray a poly on them and hope that takes care of that problem. If not, then I hope nothing touches them once they are in the yard. LOL. I need to get to Michaels and see if they still have those black hats. If not, I might be buying the little straw hats and these two can be the country bumpkin cousins of the Blues Brothers. LOL.
Instead of Jake and Elwood, I'll have LeRoy and Billy Bob.
Maybe I'll put my other by them, she can be Sally Ann.
Lord I am losing my marbles at an alarming rate these days.

luckygal, if I couldn't shop eBay or online, I'd be a mess.
LOL. I love that kind of shopping, especially finding neat things. I've shipped to Canada when I sell a friend's artwork for her, and its not been much more than across the US most of the time. Have you ever checked with a seller to ask their price to ship to you? Might be worth it for something you can't find there.

I'll take photos of my flamingos soon. Think I might be doing the one in purple tonight after the sun goes down.
We're over 110 and I'm not happy. Phoenix is Hell in summer. I can't wait till end of Oct. LOL

Great score on the flamingos. I love those Blue Brothers.
One fraternity of the local University started a tradition of "pinkin'" someone. That's where dozens of pink flamingos would magically appear on your lawn over night. Then it was your turn to "pink" someone else. Everybody fought hard not to have a pink yard. I never got "pinkd" 'cause they knew I'd paint them!

Karen, good idea on the country bumpkin Blues Bros. Looking forward to seeing them. Hope the paint sticks, maybe it just needs to cure.

Some ebay sellers won't even ship to Canada. I'd love to Craigslist but that's 5 hours away so not cost effective. I'm better off with shopping not being so easy anyhow. I'd have to develop some willpower. ;-)

If you're losing your marbles, here's a few you can have - take as many as you need! LOL Had to top up my stash when I was at Michaels in the city. I have tons I've bot at YS/TS/$ stores but always missing a color. I noticed the quality of these is better than some I've bot at $ stores. They are more uniform in "roundness" so for some uses it's worth the difference in cost to me.

Karen Hobby Lobby had those hats today!!!!! But they had so many sizes I got confused. You have to take a flamingo up to the store, wrapped in a baby blanket, so not to get scratched. Then you can try the hats on. I expect someone will call 911 though. ; ) snicker

Hobby Lobby is about 45 min from me, so I rarely get out there since someone has to drive me. My darn rgt leg won't let me drive AND walk that much. I was thrilled Michaels had the hats. And the size I bought is just right. I even got a little straw hat for Sally Ann to wear.
The poly didn't change the problem with the paint easily knicking off the Brothers. Whatever protective stuff they used on that pink pair is really good it seems. Hindsight says I should have used Primer maybe. Tho its not suppose to be necessary for Fusion Plastic paint. Anyway, they're all done and I just need to add the hats and find a SAFE place to put them. Otherwise I'll be doing touch-ups with the blue paint fairly often I'm afraid. Actually those hats probably wouldn't last long with our intense sun. A shady spot that is protected is what I need for them. Will have to figure out where out back tomorrow.
