It's severely iron deficient caused by our alkaline soils. It can be aggravated by wet or cold soil. Cold isn't an issue now but wet could still play a factor. Your best bet is to treat the soil. Go to your favorite store and ask for something to treat iron deficient soil. There are many compounds that will help. But don't expect the currently yellowish leaves to improve. You are trying to have less severe problems on any new leaves and on next year's leaves.

tcstoehr: I wouldn't try to thin Fuyu at this stage of the season. If the fruits are only marble size, a lot more natural drop will still occur. You may end up having to do little or no hand thinning. Mine are still dropping occasionally, and the fruitlets are much larger than marble size. You won't really know how many persimmons your tree will hold until August/September. But at that point, they will still be a long way from ripe. Those that do hold will continue to grow, even when they begin to color orange. They will hang on the trees right through October and into November. Where you live, maybe even into December. Leave them on the trees until they start to soften, which seems to take forever. I wonder what kind of rootstock you have there, since I was unaware that persimmons can be grafted to any other than persimmon stock. I am quite sure mine are grafted to American persimmon stock, which is more vigorous than the scions above, and will provide excellent anchorage and hardiness. On my trees, the rootstock stem is clearly thicker than the grafted Asian varieties above. With persimmons, I think you can leave fruitlets that are right next to each other, as frequently happens, and they will both grow to full size. Last season I had 3 Eurekas grow in a cluster, left them all, and all three grew to over 3 1/2 inches in diameter. This year, there will be a lot more, both on Eureka and the other two varieties. There are many factors, so it's hard to say. Weather is also a factor in that if you get a warm spring and a cold snap, it could freeze buds causing them to fail. That happened to many of us in North America this year. Several factors affect fruiting: Weather Light Pollination Water Nutrients pH Pests/Disease Alternate year bearing (from fruiting too much in the previous year) Maturity (some fruit plants take many years to fully bear) Pruning Some of these factors you can control, some you can't. Best to optimize the factors you can control, and pay attention to those you can't (such as weather). Research each variety and determine what they need and give it to them. Learn to prune correctly. Learn IPM (integrated pest management. Fruit trees are more difficult then many other plants to grow and maintain correctly. You'll have to arm yourself with knowledge of each tree and conditions. Fruit tree maintenance changes from year to year as well as they have different requirements as they mature, and each year seems different as far as weather, pests, disease and pollinators. They are about as high maintenance as you can get, so it's always ongoing learning. Good luck.

I am not an expert, but have been reading some articles on pollination recently. (I stayed at a Holiday Inn). You need a pollinator, or, this is from the Missouri Extension Service: In situations where a solitary apple tree is planted, branches of open fresh blossoms of another apple or crabapple pollinating variety can be placed in buckets of water and hung in the tree. Another way to ensure pollination where a single tree is planted, is to top-work or graft another apple variety onto the existing tree. To top-work an apple tree, 6- to 8-inch sections of branches of one apple variety are cleft-grafted onto terminal branches of another variety. It is possible there is a plum tree elsewhere in your neighborhood that some bees alighted upon and then landed on yours. However the Missouri Ext Service indicates that plums benefit from a pollinator. They do not say a pollinator is required to produce plums.
