Well from what IÂve seen of hurricanes you can just about not build as try to tame the winds.

However what you might find attractive and a bit innovative is to stager them so there is negative space between them.

Face on they would present a solid wall but step to the side a little and the emptiness between then becomes apparent (or not if you set your plants in the negative areas). This would help with the stronger winds; also if you pivot the plane x degrees from the prevailing winds there is less wind resistance. {{gwi:151760}}

I think 4" X 4" would be over-kill.

Trimming treated lumber can be its own hazard so wear a fine particle dust mask along with the safety glasses if you do it yourself.
