It was green fruit beetles, not green June bugs

that ate most of my nectarines. I killed several hundred of them using the soapy water in a bucket method or swatting them in midair with a badminton racquet, but they just kept coming. This article says they lay their eggs in compost piles, and I have spread a thick layer of compost around all my trees, and sure enough I see them burrowing into it.Anyone else in southern California plagued by them?
