A Blue Glass Paperweight in a Cobalt Blue Bird Bath

Hi everyone! This isn't all that creative but is a fun, simple addition to our gardens.

I bought a blue, glass, handmade, bubble paperweight from Shopgoodwill.com. I saved on shipping by picking it up in Spokane since we had other errands to do there. The Shopgoodwill lady was soooo nice and excited to hear what I was going to do with the paperweight! (Maybe I made a Garden Junk convert out of her! LOL)

I placed the paperweight in the cobalt blue birdbath my fourth grade students bought me a few years back. I used aqauarium glue to glue it down. It worked! The blue of the glass looks so neat with the cobalt blue of the birdbath. You can't see it in the pictures but there is a small butterfly etched in the paperweight. The paperweight is so sparkly in the sun. Enjoy! Bear Hugs! Kirk

Kirk, That is really a cool birdbath!!!! Ok now make sure that there is something in there so the birds have something to grip with their feet. Make sure no other critters get in it and break that beautiful piece of art! And bring it in in the winter too! :-) Love, Jules

Great haul and you did remarkable things with it! You can kind of see the irridescence in the plate in the picture of all your buys from GW. It looks very pretty with the different colored globs on it and you placed them so well. And who would have thought that some ordinary glasses/dessert cups would make such a gorgeous birdbath? Love the blue and the butterfly. I think the birds will really like that teapot too. Great buys and great ideas! TFS!

shhhh..I'm telling you, that midsummer night will work, and you will beyond love it. It will carry the chocolate brown/sea-like Yarmouth Blue combo into the bathroom. It is not a color to use on large wall area, but it IS THE Color to use on small wall areas. It has an effect of making windows and the views like paintings, gives a bathroom a rich warmth, luxurious surround in which to, say, bathe with candlesÃ¢ÂÂ¦. My broker asked me to take a look at her kitchen as they wanted to paint the end third of it. She had in mind a neutral taupe or beige. I went over to take a look, and immediately saw a chocolate brown. Two thirds of their kitchen is entirely made up of - yes - medium brown cabinetry and the appliances virtually NO wall area But the back third is made up of large windows and a French door to the patior, overlooking a golf course, and then winds around to a rear door and entryway. They have a dining table in the window at the end of the kitchen, with a wrought iron chandelier. Well, they went for it (she and I, on our own and purely by coincidence, both picked the Midsummer Night. We couldn't believe it!). It is absolutely, positively stunning. They love it. It totally enriches everything - their paintings, the chandelier, the view, the window trimÃ¢ÂÂ¦and it contemporized the look of their cabinetry., which they were very happy about. I had their friends calling me to ask if I'd come to their houses after they saw the chocolate brown in their kitchen. I don't mean to sound so pushy. It's just that I know it looks like a bold color, i.e.: risky color, but my point is, it isn't. I strongly suggest getting a sample and painting one wall, i.e.: around the window, to get a feel for it. And again, crisp white towels and a splash of color with a nice fake orchid or something similarÃ¢ÂÂ¦you will love it.

Absolutely stunning! Your students are the greatest at giving you special gifts, and you find things at shopgoodwill.com that I never even see!! You must go to some secret category I haven't found. LOL.

Kirk, you couldn't have matched that color any better! What a great eye you have! I have admired your garden and "Garden Art" for some time now. Everything you do is top-notch! Wow! Thanks everyone for your nice comments! Made my day! You ALL inspire me so much to think "beyond the box". Before I joined the forum, I would have never thought to place a paperweight in my garden. You keep my creative juices flowing. Thank you for inspiring me!

I "haunt" shopgoodwill, but Carol has banned me from it for awhile! LOL My last purchase before the ban (LOL) was a wood squirrel holding a brass nut. Can't wait to get it! Should look cool on our country porch. Karen and Luna, I love the Miscellaneous, Home Decor, Collectibles, Figurines, and Glass categories. It's amazing what you can find there but some things are pricey with shipping so I try to be careful. :o)

Kathy, This spring my wife Carol and I were spending a Saturday afternoon in a town north of us, checking out all of the little shops. We wandered into a Hallmark shop, and I found the little bird in the clearance room for $1.50. It's cast iron. Looks neat on the bird bath. At first, our cat kept jumping at it but finally realized it wasn't real! LOL Thank goodness I glued the bird to the bird bath or the cat would've carried it away! LOL! Bear Hugs! Kirk
