Mushroom done except sealing... what'ya think

It's not exactly perfect... the top should have been bigger for the base. But I think it came out ok. Not sure where I will put it. It still needs to be sealed. Tell me what you think... I will definately be making more!!!!

Oh wow bright, it's so gorgeous!!! And it's bigger than I thought it would be. I made two more but they aren't as cute as the first one I did. I will probably mosaic them but I think I'll leave my first one plain. Anyway, great job!!! And your puppy dog is cute too!

Yes,we have ,apparently,lots of chanterelles,and some boletes as well.It's my understanding,though,that I have to sell my soul to get access to other people's private picking areas.Yummy they are,though! As for pouring directly on the mushroom...I don't think it would work on most of what we're getting.Perhaps with portobello....the gills on the ones we get here are VERY fine.But,I like what you're thinking.Maybe we'll try it on an LBM(Little Brown Mushroom!).Those we get lots of in the forest.for those that like'm,we collect oyster mushrooms less than 100 meters from our door.Envious? Perfect place for Earth Angel, except...

Got some young, strong help today (along with a crowbar), and out came the rock! Earth Angel is now lined up with a 6-year-old Guardian Angel. Maybe someday they'll be somewhere near the same size and balance out this part of the garden. Thanks to all for the advice. Mocc - didn't need the extension bar this time; the rock was blessedly flat and Greg is blessedly strong. But, living in New England, I will likely need the extension pipe one of these days. Great idea. Thanks.

all the mushrooms are 'doing' .. is using the decaying wood in the ground ... but for wood to decay.. it needs water.. and 'uses' nitrogen .. in breaking down .. e.g. if you had a big pile of wood chips.. you would water it it to keep it moist.. and throw some 49-0-0 on it.. to 'speed' it along ... cutting a year or two off a 4 year plan to make compost out of wood ... so if you have some REAL LARGE roots ... they can actually be stealing water from the area ... i am talking at least an inch or two thick.. or more ... usually.. you will see a pattern in the mushrooms, where in they may follow the source of food ... say a root you cant see ... and if you take a hand trowel.. and just shove it down.. you may hit the root ... just as a curiosity ... i dont work so hard as to dig them up ... they are rotting ... if its as dry as you say.. i am surprised the shrooms can even prosper ... but your hosta decline.. is probably more water related.. rather than any side effect of the shrooms ... i do NOT recommend hyper fertilizing soil [i was talking about composting in general] .. but i would recommend water.. water.. water.. not only for the hosta.. but for the decomposition process .. you sound like you are intent on moving them.. go for it.. just learn about your soil.. and you can aid the process ... but dont go nutso over a free and extra show of mother nature ... and if kids are around.. simply teach them .. ALL MUSHROOMS COME FROM A CAN or the grocer ... they can experiment with them .. when they are adults .. but not in the yard ... [and if they are already adults.. and harvesting them out of your garden.. well.. you raised them ... lol ... ken

Bill - your work never fails to amaze me. Absoulutely beautiful! And I agree - marble has been around way longer than any of us and is definitely not a fad. For some reason I haven't been able to figure out, there are many porcelain look alikes for calacutta, but none for cararra. Calacutta is too gold for my project. Do you know the manufacturer of that tile? Maybe they make a carrara look alike? I don't see myself spilling nail polish remover in my shower :-) But, I hear what you are saying. The Q-seal stuff is intriguing though. I started looking for porcelain subways that are not marble look alikes and I think I found a winner. It's the Villery and Boch Bernina series. Will probably do a strip of decos in cararra to get my marble fix and just have to deal with keeping that sealed which hopefully won't be a big deal. May still do floor in honed marble because it was just so beautiful I can't resist. Shower is small (32x48) so sealing that shouldn't be a big deal. Holly - I think you misunderstood. I do not want faux stone. I want real stone without the maintenance. I actually do not like faux stone at all and most of the time it looks fake to me and my even more picky husband (Bill's job above is definitely the exception!). The Q-Seal is not faux stone made with real stone. It's real stone. Any stone. And then they apply a sealer and bake it in. nikinikinine - thanks for the info. Please come back and let us all know how it goes. Would really love to know more about this stuff and how it holds up over time. Good luck with your project!

I thought the top looked too small for the base too, until the mosaic. It is just perfect, I love it. The mosaic you chose is beautiful with that base. Very nice job.

You did a wonderful job and it's so fun to see. Did you make the base too, or just do the mosaic? And then, how was the base made? Is that a vase for the base? It's great!

THAT is very impressive!!!!!!!!! Glad you did one shot while holding it as it was so hard to get the size perspective!!!!!! Yes - that is a real work of art - good job!!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, everyone. I like the way it turned out. The base is glass looks like it came from a very old lamp of some sort so there's a hole all the way through. The cap I used quickcrete that we had around the house. I had to sift the rocks out. I took a bowl covered it with a plastic walmart bag and filled with concrete. When it started setting up I stuck a piece of rebar in that fit the hole in the base and was long enough to place in the ground (about 12inches long). I used thinset mortar to attach the stained glass. I will probably put a little GEII on the base to keep the cap in place. The whole thing is about 7 1/2 inches tall. Can't wait to seal it and place it in the garden.
