PA-GO-DA... just the word is cool!

Reminds me of My Shi-ro-na! lol

Wanted to share my last purchase. Saw this at our local auction & just had to have it. Usually, things that are old & broken don't go for much, but this time, there were 2 other people who wanted it & I spent a whopping $22.50.

It amazes me how MOST people would NEVER think to repair or make items themselves! Even if they have to spend a fortune, they'd rather buy. I really appreciate being on this forum with all you guys! Not only do you come up with great ideas, your willing to share, you make stuff yourselves, your willing to repair, etc, etc... we're a rare commodity! Like finding people who still do canning.

GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK!

With the pagoda, figured it's fiberglass, I can repair it easy (want to make it real fancy anyway), AND my daughter plans to use it as a pattern to start making more.

Hope this gets someone elses ideas going!

Oh Wow!! that is tooooooo cool for words. I can't wait to see it after you have put your touch on it. What an awesome find and worth every penny! lots of pictures please.............:)

I've gone to the Indiana State Fair as long as I could remember. Now that I have my own kiddos, I go twice :) Once with everyone, and we go with the kids' flow. And I go again with Jacob to see what we missed the first time. We have a State Fair Train which leaves about a mile from our house. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the fairgrounds, and the kids love riding the train.

Pat at Roses Unlimited is very nice, she cleared up the shipping confusion, by listing an example for CA, where the shipping charge is $8 for each additional rose, rather than $5 to my zone 5a, Chicagoland. Here's what Pat of Roses Unlimited e-mailed me: "I will list the cost for CA just to show how it works- 1-2 roses - Minimum $22 3 roses - $35 4 roses - $35 5 roses - $40 After 5 roses the charge goes back to $8 per plant which was the same as last season so for 6 roses, it would be $48." Pat of RU. *** From Straw: For my zone 5a, IL, shipping cost would be: 1-2 roses: Minimum $16 3 roses - $26 4 roses - $26 5 roses - $31 After 5 roses, the charge goes back to $5 per plant, which will be 5 x 6 = $30 for 6 roses. So if someone buy 6 roses, then one gets the best deal in shipping. It's still confusing to me, since Pat gave me the breakdown for CA, and I had to figure out the break-down for my Illinois, which is east of Miss, River, with minimum of $16 shipping charge. Roses Unlimited is out of Young Lycidas, so I'll wait until next year to place an order. Pat also inform me that Boscobel won't be available next year, since it takes a few years before David Austin releases new roses.

Yes, Strawchicago My family was sad today too:) This would have been such a necessary precident:) I manually tore some outer balled leaves from Kordes Perfecta that was balled and it opened:) You (2) are more rose enthusiastic than I. I got the EMT metal conduit to cover my peas, and now I realize I have to draw a pattern and return the metal bender bc it is not sufficient for what I need. I got 6 mil plastic and agribon was delivered today) I made an inner circle core out of hardware fabric and put a metal drain on top. Hardware fabric is a real pain to work with:) Thank goodness I was wearing long pants, that metal fabric is SO though to work with. The aeration cores make a big difference in attracting BSFL and they help SO much in heating the pile. The Urban Farmer says to accept what you have planted now is as much as you can for the winter and to protect that with plastic. He is not in favor of agribon bc he says it allow the ground to freeze. That's true:)

Does anyone know why the Saturday multi-feature matinees ended? My dad talks about seeing several cartoons, news reels, and a feature when he was a kid in the 30s. Sounds like it lasted thru the 40's and into the 50's, but was entirely gone by the 60's ... why? We still had that available in the sixties. I went in the late fifties and stopped by age 11 (1962) when my friends and I started going to the Friday night movies instead. I babysat 3 young children throughout middle school and high school and on Saturdays I was allowed to walk them to the Kiddie Matinee, drop them off and come back for them a few hours later to walk them home, giving me some paid time off. I loved the formality back then. The theater manager would great everyone personally taking tickets at the door wearing a dark suit. Even at the Saturday matinee. During the kiddie matinee they would have contests and sometimes a live guest between movies. When I turned 12 my mother recruited me as a movie buddy for Wednesday nights. We would have dinner out at some cafe or even at a store counter and then go to the movies. Always sat in the loge area in the good seats. A short time later I went to my first drive-ins on dates and with friends but we continued our Wednesday nights for several years. Another thing that in my opinion used to be better back then was that Disney ran their movies on a six year schedule. That way each generation got to see the Disney classics when they reached an optimal age to view it. It made it special. Just like you used to have to actually go to Disneyland to get mouse ears. Special and magical. A child's first movie experience was usually one of those Disney classics and it was unheard of to take a crying baby into a theater.

That's amazing. I'd like to see what your daughter comes up with too. I'm looking at it trying to figure out how tomake it out of concrete. Got an idea!

I used to see those a lot around ponds and folks who do their houses up oriental style, however I always thought they were cement statuary. If you price them at statuary places or garden shops they usually are a mint.

Good find...how to you plant to repair it...are you sure it is fiberglass. (oh be so careful with fiberglass don't let it get under your skin at all!)

Will be fun to see what you do with your great find!! If they were made from cement they would last forever!! Could be made in pieces & stacked. Hope DD can figure it out. Jan

That is very nice and I think it will fix up easily enough. It wasn't really too expensive, but I know I'm always looking for bargains. Show us some pics when it makes it to the garden.
