How to tell when Green Fleshed Pineapple melons are ripe?

I'm something of an "experimental" gardener, in that I learn to grow things by randomly choosing what looks interesting, and then planting it.

This year the impulse buy was a Green Fleshed Pineapple, aka Ananas D'Amerique A Chair Verte. Work forced me to leave home for 6 weeks while this little gem grew, and by the time I came back it had overwhelmed my trellis and put on three or four fruit. I now have one melon that is about 5" diameter and a lovely green & white striped.

Now the silly question is, how do I know when it's ripe? Is it like store-bought melons, in that it sounds hollow? Keep in mind, this is also the first time I've ever attempted to grow a melon. So if there's something unusual about growing them, I don't know it yet.
