I make glass torchwork beads, and the odd thing is, the red glass ISN'T more expensive than other colors. There is a "gold pink" made with gold, and it's very expensive. So there are ways to make red glass cheaply. I don't know why they don't use that for bottles, maybe it's toxic. Watch out for coated glass; lots of decorative objects are clear glass with a red (or other color) paint that fades, scratches, and peels. I can tell the coated stuff by holding it up to the light, the color is richer and more consistent.

Okay, I have to go to a liquor store just to look at cool, blue bottles! Carol went to a beer making/wine making store and saw some cool, blue bottles there...cool, blue beer bottles with the ceramic caps...I'm thinking hummingbird feeder. I heard that Budweiser will be using blue bottles for their beer. I enjoy Bud Light and have noticed their cans have switched to a cool blue. The only problem with the bottles though is that it will probably have their labels painted on. Sadness...but cool to look at as I enjoy it! LOL :o) Thanks, Sandy, for sharing your find! FANTASTIC!!! Thank you everyone for your compliments! I played with ideas for a bottle tree for years before I actually made one. I have an idea for another bottle tree but I need to see if I can find any red or white bottles. Bamasue, the bottle tree is about 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide and the 1x1 foot cinder block that forms the base is mostly buried in the ground. I didn't use any concrete to hold the pipes in place so that the tree could be easily moved or dismantled (in case of a hurricane!). I actually traded with my neighbor for the pipes, I had a copper/brass sample muffler for a big truck siting in my back yard that just happened to be the same weight as the bundle of copper pipes I needed. The muffler had been sitting in a storage closet at work (I in the engineering dept. of a firetruck manufacturer) and was going to be thrown away when the closet was cleaned out. Instead it ended up coming home with me and sat in my yard for several years. I love going over and checking out what my neighbor has in his yard. For a living he collects and recycles scrap metal as well as strips out buildings that are marked for either demolition or remodeling. Sometimes he brings home the neatest stuff!

Well it's finally finished. Dh is an ale drinker, but he discovered Bud's new platinum brew in blue bottles isn't bad, so he contributed quite a few. Sandi, I bought a couple Ty Nant bottles of water. The labels on the Saratoga Springs were engraved on the bottle. I wanted removable labels. Thanks again to everyone for the help!
