Oh, go for it! The lazy susan sounds like it would be very handy. And, if you decide not to use it as a dining table, you could always use it as a craft table or potting table.

Oh, definitely TAKE IT. Your ideas for it sound great, and will be very pretty done up.

Well I got it! Now I just need to figure out the best way to paint it. Since it had cushions the bottom of the chairs is vinyl webbing, I guess I can tape over that when I spray paint. The table, though is another thing. It is a glass top, but the supports for the glass come right up to the glass, you can see the color through the glass. My DH thinks we can get the glass off before we paint, we shall see.

I am going to go to get paint tomorrow, and clean and tape the chairs so I can get them painted. Now to find cushions. I did find some online at Lowes, will have to go check them out. They are a little pricey though.

It it possible to take the glass off. The glass is held in there by a rivet on the side. DH and I were going to get the rivit out and replace it with a scew or something that could be removed. We were going to do that with an old table that I got from my Dad and step mom, however, we ended up finding a great deal on another complete set and decided to just ditch it all. The chairs were not in good shape with the old set. (I also refuse to have a set with cushions anymore because they're a waste of money. They don't last nearly as long as I would like them to be worth it.)

You can always recover the cushions .I do it all the time.

Well I went to Lowes yesterday and bought the paint and tape and such, ready to scrub the chairs and paint. But Mother Nature had other ideas! We had thunderstorms, mud slides, and even tornados in So Cal in May!

Weird, I did find out that hummers really swarm to the feeders when it thunders!

Supposed to be the same today! Maybe tomorrow, at least then I can get DH to help!

Hi Laura, It's supposed to rain some on Saturday. It's fun to get some exciting weather once in a while, lol. I'd bet that a lot of garden junkers who live in other states would never be so thrilled to have some cold stuff hit the ground. It's a once in a lifetime party here! We got some pretty good rain here in Walnut, near Pomona, but the only damage we've seen is the Staples store closed due to flooding.

Hi Laura...I couldn't believe it when I read your post just now, I have the same table and chairs that you got from your neighbor. Cream color, glass top and the chairs have the vinyl mesh bottoms.
I just re-did it. I spray painted the table and chairs black, mesh and all and then made slip covers to go over the nasty cushions, I really just made pillow cases to slide over the cushions with snaps at the top. That way they can be taken off and washed when ever they need it. I had a bolt of washed denium so that is what I used for durability. I absolutely love it now, it is like a brand new set but with out the price tag!
As for taking the glass off the table, well I didn't cause I was scared I would break it it's really in there tight, Yes, you can see the top of the legs thru the glass, so I figured the old cream color would be less noticeable than the black showing thru, I used a piece of poster board to lay up against the glass while spray painting the legs, so the paint wouldn't get on the underside of the table top.
You don't even notice the top of the legs under the glass at all. Plus most of the time I keep place mats on the table so you wouldn't see them any way. It was alot of fun to do and very rewarding. Yours turned out great! Mine is just a little different. Here are a few pics. I think my chairs have the leaves on them and the table is frosted sort of with a leaf pattern. I am hoping to get out and maybe get a few chairs done today. I went with the Rustoleum textured dark brown color. The trim on our house is brown so that is what I thought would look better.

Well never a boring person, I chose the textured Rustoleum. So far it has taken 9 cans of paint to do 2 chairs and we aren't quite done with the 2nd one! I know going from white to dark brown doesn't help either, but at $5.97 a can! DH is saying we could have bought new chairs for what is going to cost us to paint!!!

But it will be a one of a kind set! Now to find so cheap cushions. Can't recover the old ones, they were trashed and therefore ended up there!

I will check out Walmart.

WOW, 9 cans to do only 2 chairs. Gulp! Do you have some sort of "spray box" to keep a lot of the spray from disappearing into air? Either a large cardboard box, or even a piece like a poster board, to hold behind the area you are spraying? It does help I've found.

I know the set is going to look beautiful. Hope you can find cheap cushions, I checked Walmart last week but most were around $30 each and that wasn't cheap enough for me.

Well I think we have figured out how to do it now. At least DH has. Trial and error. We did find cushions at Home Depot, but yes they are $30 each. I have a Lowes 10% off coupon, wonder if they will take it? I have to say it does look good!

Heck, I even liked it beige! Very nice now and I love that bench in the background! It's a swing isn't it??

Yes it is a swing, needs a coat of oil. But I love it. Will never not have a swing. I can lay down in it to read and with in 10 minutes, am asleep! Love it!

Well we are almost done, will not tell you how many cans of paint it has taken, oy! But from what I understand that is normal going from light to dark, and using the textured paint. I do love it, can't wait to get it all done and set up.

Well my neighbor saw what we had done and wants the set back! Told her sorry! We are almost done, just need to finish a few more chairs. I looked the set up and just for the 5 chairs they are asking $285. So I don't feel so bad!

That chair and the new cushion is GREAT. I can't wait to see a photo of the whole set. Got a LOL out of your neighbor wanting it back too.

Its beautiful! And it sounds like you've taught your neighbor a lesson in recycling. About spray painting, I too discovered that I used a lot more paint than I expected when I spray painted my old wicker chairs last summer. I think I'll do a brush on undercoat before I paint things like that again.

Awesome job! I too liked it in off-white but the brown is wonderful with the brick red cushions. I need new cushions too for my "fake" wicker chairs and have been whining about the price of them. Love your colors!

Thanks all, although the weather was sucky here in So Cal this weekend, we couldn't not enjoy our new patio set.

Neighbor still hasn't gotten her set put together! Glad ours is done and we can enjoy!
