Newest birdhouse

This is the latest addition to the post we put in my garden last year...it has birdhouse "doors" on both sides. My DH was working out there yesterday when he got bopped in the head by the daddy chickadee! Too funny...guess he didn't like him messing with his family in the second floor house!

Marlene...that's a great idea to put a door in front & back sides...one up & one down...so I assume DH put a floor in-between...looks like a winner! And I love the hardware you've added! Is it green like the top pic? TFS! Jeanne S.

Paya, hope our "resident gripey pants" doesn't discourage you as she has some others. (sorry but I've held my tongue as long as I can about this) The rest of us LOVE what you did and how creative you were. Those old boards really set off the whole vignette. Hey, yeah - LARGE hostas. I was worried about watering and weeding. The slope is steeper than it looks in the photo. But some big ones would spread out and help keep the weeds and honeysuckle down. Thanks for the enabling and words of encouragement! I really don't need the space right now, since I ripped out the undergrowth from a huge section of woods in 2011. 4 or five giants would cover a lot of ground in the meantime. And yes, I did tell my DH to hire a tree guy next time. Little trees are one thing. These were full grown. We've got one mature elm left, and I'm afraid the Dutch Elm disease that took out the other two will find it. We burned everything the neighbor didn't take as firewood, hope that helps stop the spread. Maybe I'll transplant the holly bushes to the slope, too. They're crowding Aphrodite and Alex Summers.

I know I posted before on this thread, but gotta share with you what my family and I did today. Well, let me start back a couple weeks ago when the city came out and took up the front sidewalk and replaced it. I had planting beds right up against it with those landscape timbers, so had to pull those out and also move some plants to the back until we got things back in order. They finished the sidewalk - did a beautiful job and still needed to replace the edging. Well, thank goodness for direct depost tax refunds! We went out and bought two truckloads of what the stoneyard calls "Panhandle dry stack" and laid those out as edging along the beds and down the sides of our property line. We didn't have enough to go all the way down one side, but will need to get one more truckload to finish that later on. Next step is putting the plants back in the ground and we should get that done tomorrow. So, what I did in the garden today, along with husband and my three boys was to lay stone edging. Gosh, I am tired tonight! I should sleep really well. Okay - time for bed since we're supposed to set our clocks an hour ahead this weekend.

Lovely Jeanne! So glad I motivated you...but you and Punk seem be doing all the motivating lately! Now I think this TS should 'motivate' some of us to do the same!! lol This TS is such a cozy setting. I love that you added the birdhouse DH made along with all your favorite Wintery things. Love the little silvery birds and the deer with the book behind...Perfect! Your friend's felted candleholder is different and lovely - yes she's very talented. Great layering with the Sonoma 'American Heritage' dinnerplate & red bowls and the Silver snowflake napkin rings and red napkins tucked inside the bowls, is such a nice touch. Love your woven vine tree tucked in the corner which adds to the lovely cozy setting. I'm sorry I never got to make one for myself..but still have the thought 'tucked away' in the back of my mind! This was so nice to see on a cold wintery day. It really warms your heart and speaks 'Welcome Home'! What time is dinner? Are we having a 'hearty stew'? I can bake some bread to go with it! :) I'll round up the gang...and oh - you'll need to add some more placesettings!! jane

That's one cool looking bird house. At least it was a daddy chickadee and not a wood pecker. (a woodpecker attacked a friend of mine, 2 days in a row! years ago)

Guess your DH found out whose house it is! Very fancy, you must have some special birds to give them such great accommodations! I want to know what is on the chain also. I imagine you have a totem birdbath nearby. You may get some permanent residents in your yard. Jan

That is lovely, I love that shade of blue and the decorations are great. I like the swirly side best.

Thanks all, for the compliments. The birdhouse is a blue/green color and it is hanging on the post where we hang two well buckets with flowers. I'll post another picture when I get my buckets up there this year. I loved the way it looked all summer last year, so it is definitely a keeper for this year.
