Never heard of that disease. Nutrient deficiencies in the soil is a possibility. Maybe need iron. Iron Sulphate, I believe, helps. Half a handful.

Check soil pH around the blueberry shrubs. If you don't have a pH meter, you can get an "aquarium water pH test kit" at a pet store for less than ten dollars. These kits cover the range of 6.0 to 7.6. If your soil pH is at 7.0 or above, you will need to lower the pH before the shrubs will be able to take in nutrient successfully.

Could be as simple as early fall color due to inadequate water.

Thanks for the ideas about what it might be. I'll try not to worry too much about the others. I planted them in mostly peat moss, so I'm not too worried about the soil pH, though I should probably test it anyway. I haven't been watering like I should, so that might be one of the problems.

If you are watering your blueberry shrubs with tap water, and if your tap water contains dissolved limestone, that is, you have hard water, then the pH of the soil is going to go up. Usually, the result of high pH is yellow leaves, however. Rainwater will not raise soil pH, so if you have a rainbarrel, that is helpful.

I agree with Eric. I don't know that high pH is the problem, but he is right about tap water if it is high in alkalinity, neutralizing the acids of the peat moss quickly. Eric and I live within an hour of one another and we both deal with tap water that comes from limestone deposits. We both need to keep our eye on things, use rainwater as much as we can or add vinegar to tap water when we must use it or the pH of the blueberry soil goes up, even with sulfur added to the soil.

I have several different varieties and the red leaves appear to be variety specific. I have not used any water on mine this year, so tap water would not be the culprit. I have one row with eleven plants and only one has the red leaves. I would not worry about it, I have seen this before and it obviously has been no big deal.

I had done a lot of searching on this site when I wanted to grow blueberries and somewhere I had read that read leaves meant an iron deficiency. About a month ago I bought a Misty that had red leaves and I gave it some liquid iron fertilizer. Not only have the red leaves turned green but there are many new shoots starting and it seems to be doing great.

This is shortly after I purchased it and put it in a 24" pot.
